What does some of the best pitching stats in the MLB in week one get you? A decline in the power rankings apparently 🫠

Make it make sense!

  1. Everything in the universe that can be observed, from people to planets, is made of matter. Except for power rankings. Those do not matter.

  2. How can anyone rank teams after 3 to 5 games?

Pirates are 5-0 and ranked one spot behind the Red Sox. No one has faced enough teams to drastically move up the list.

  3. All things that I know – this is mostly a power ranking roast. I just thought it was amusing that they only got worse (from 19 to 21 no less) after some of the stats they put up. Last year’s World Series featured preseason #17 vs preseason #21 , so they’re obviously incredibly meaningful 🙃

  4. It’s a popularity vote. Look at last season and how the stanks were consistently ranked around the middle despite actually almost finishing behind the Sox.

It’s half stats and half who is the team.

  5. I wish Fanduel would take these power rankings into account. I’d love to get better value on my Sox wagers.

  6. Don’t pay attention to power rankings. They mean jack shit and are just used to get clicks and comments.

  7. Stats are a reflection of competition as much as performance, especially with an extremely small sample size.

  8. Power rankings are pointless (which I realize you know since this post is clearly mocking them, but bear with me haha), especially at this time of year. At this point they are just using their preseason ranks as a baseline, and using performance to determine if they’ve done enough to move up. Had the Sox beat up on the defending champs and won each game 15-0 then yeah a good jump would be justified, but 3-2 against Oakland and Seattle doesn’t move the needle, especially with inconsistent offense. That being said, we’re all here talking about it, so mission accomplished for those who made the rankings

  9. Breaking news: New York based company shows bias against teams from Boston more at 11

  10. There’s going to be a lot of disappointed people in this subreddit if they think the pitching will be this good all year.

  11. Who cares? Only thing that matters is who has more runs at the end of the game. They can rate the Red Sox below the Toledo Mud Hens for all I care, but if the Red Sox win, it’s all good.

  12. I cannot fathom giving one iota of a shit about the injustice of MLB power rankings with 157 games left in the season.

  13. I mean they faced the mariners and the double A club known as the Oakland As.

Give them a couple more weeks. So far so good but let’s see how they do vs better clubs
