For anyone concerned about the Diggs contract, he is essentially playing on a contract year now as there will be no guarantees following this season

Players typically ball out on contract years and this will be Diggs third team. If he isn’t on his best behavior he is not going to get another contract by any franchise, so the risk involved, if anyone is concerned, is negligible.

  1. I’m torn.
If he plays really good, he might dip after this year, but if he dips, we have money to pay Nico.

  2. I like not having strings attached if he performs well and we win I bet he comes back and if he doesn’t we move on, but also gives us room to extend Nico and possibly Diggs if he performs well, So I think this is a win win

  3. Yeah I’m good with this. He didn’t have any guarantees after next season anyways. He was never gonna play on that remaining contract without that. So this works for me. It should keep him motivated. If he balls out and the locker room fit is good, they’ll likely bring him back. If not, free comp pick.

  4. I like it, Diggs will have to be a good teammate (Assuming the rumors of him being a locker room cancer are true to some degree), and also contribute if he wants that last big payday instead of going through the motions. Plus this allows us to still extend Nico when the time comes since it’s difficult juggling multiple large WR contracts all at once cap wise.

  5. I would’ve liked Diggs for at least 2 years and we could’ve cut him after this year if he was cancerous. I really don’t know that I like this idea. Sure he’ll ball out, but it just feels meh

  6. Renting him for possibly only a year for a 2nd and 22 mil doesn’t make a ton of sense, considering we weren’t a Diggs and a Hunter away from the sb.

It isn’t detrimental, and he should help our team, but if he dips next year, I’m not sure how justifiable the move will have been.

  7. This is great we don’t have to deal with Diggs being a cancer if things don’t go as planned and we can still develop the young wrs in the squad and/or draft one in the 2025 draft while still extending Nico

  8. Absolutely brilliant. Incentivizes Diggs to leave it all out on the field this year, and if he’s out next year we’re not on the hook for any money, we pay Nico, **AND** get a comp pick out of it.

  9. so we are keeping him at 18 million? Or is that changing? And any news on tunsil moving around his money?

  10. That $3.5mm could be the difference between getting a 3rd or 4th instead of a 4th or 5th for the comp pick if Diggs walks

  11. This is exactly what Caserio does. Come to Houston, play as best as you can for one year, then get your money in the off season. Love it.

  12. Nick is a simple man. He sees a contract with more than two years on it and he gets it out of his life

  13. Every move is the same shit lmao. “What the fuck are we doing this is so stupid Nick,” and then it works out again. Making this fan base happy is delicate as fuck.

  14. The thing that is interesting is that even if he has a GREAT year, he will be a 32? year old receiver and other teams will say “well Houston made it work but do we want to sign an older wr to a long term contract who has had some questions with discontent on other teams?”

Likely not, so we would have the opportunity to sign him again to a team friendly contract in a great situation/qb/contending team that has already built up goodwill with this move

  15. This is best cast scenario honestly. Even if he balls out I don’t know about giving a big contract to a 32 y/o receiver (age for the 2025-2026 season)

  16. I love it . No ties if it don’t work but if it does work he won’t hit free agency , we’ll resign him before that

  17. Very smart doing contracts like this for FA’s. You attract great talent on one year prove it deals all while helping that FA get a chance at making a bigger payday. It’s a win win on both parties and the best way to do business in this market 🥳

  18. 2nd round pick for a rental on market value sucks ngl. He’ll ball this year though.

  19. So i remember going into basic training during the Super Bowl year of the patriots and falcons. I was born a die hard cowboy fan, though my middle name is literally Houston.
I finally got back into the NFL last season and still cheered the boys on. Though I told myself at the end of the season I get to pick my own NFL team to become a fan of. Thank god I picked the Texans, I ordered my Stroud Jersey and am so excited for the new season. I hope y’all accept cowboy refugees. ☝️
