First 2 seasons

Not saying there alike. But GP is expected to be wideout no.1 this year, here’s his first 2 years stacked against ABs the best WR for the Steelers in the last decade. AB was able to be that guy but not until year 4 after Wallace left🤷‍♂️maybe the same follows for GP now that Diontae is gone.

  1. AB was like #4 on the depth chart until after his second year. George is a DAWG though we all know that already

  2. The number of people with Pickens’ statline who don’t become AB dwarfs the ones who do (almost none). I just hope he keeps improving, keeps maturing, and we have a competent offense/qb situation.

  3. Looks like George really needs to step up his return game.

It’s entirely too easy to imagine the play call: *”and now Pickens is off to the races … hurdles … kicks a man…”*

  4. That’s like saying “well Zach Wilson is going to be good cause he had better rookie stats than mahomes

  5. AB is better than Pickens by 1000 miles. I like Pickens a lot but he has almost 0 chance of having the success AB did, AB was the best in the league in his prime.

  6. AB was a 6th round pick and didn’t really start till year 3 or 4. Yet AB still has a Pro Bowl nod.

GP is great no doubt, but we also thought Juju was great until AB left and it proved how much attention AB garnered from defences that let Juju seem like he was legit. DJ played similar to AB. DJ is a great route runner. I think GP is a #1 but we’ll see with DJ gone, How he does.

  7. Antonio brown was not only not a starter, but was only targeted 19 times his rookie season.

  8. Brown had 131 targets in his first 2 years with only 11 as a rookie. Even in year 2 he had only a total of 3 starts as he was fighting snaps with Ward, Sanders and Cotchery. (Don’t have his snap counts for those years).

Pickens has 190 targets and 28 games started. Not really a fair comparison though Brown did have a HOF QB in his prime.

Pickens has insane talent and is clearly more talented than Brown was. Brown for all the hate he gets now was one of the hardest workers on the team. He put in a crazy amount of work on the detail of his routes, the footwork in the stem, his released, his sideline toe taps. That is how he eventually became the NFL best receiver from 2014-2018.

If Pickens worked as hard as Brown did the sky would be the limit for him.

However Brown worked that hard because he was a 5’10” receiver out of CMU with average speed and explosiveness testing. Brown was also a QB in high school so playing receiver was new to him. He was a walk on.

Pickens was a highly sought after 5 star recruit who generated buzz on the SEC after a strong freshman year. The game has been easy for him and he has not had to build that work ethic or focus on the minor details. Really hope the change in coaching staff to the stricter more detail oriented Azzanni helps him reach his potential. He has the talent to be a top-10 WR where right now he is more of a great WR2.

The difference in being a Tee Higgins or Jaylen Waddle (great WR2, but only solid WR1) vs. a true WR1 like a Cedee Lamb, Davante Adams or Justin Jefferson.

  9. AB was a 6th round pick and didn’t really start till year 3 or 4. Yet AB still has a Pro Bowl nod.

  11. AB worked out an trained with unsurpassed discipline like Brady. Picken’s is mentally soft, incapable of pushing himself beyond his natural ability.

  12. This is the dumbest comparison ever. AB barely played WR his rookie year. GP is awesome, but I will be shocked if he ever comes close to the production of prime AB aka the only receiver in NFL history with a 6 year run that is as good or better than prime Jerry Rice.

  13. There’s honestly no way to know or predict this. These guys are built completely differently, have different strengths, and were drafted with different expectations. Not to mention the WR rooms and offenses were totally different. I like Pickens, but we have no idea what he’s going to be.

  14. As crazy as it may seem I believe George will end up being the better receiver historically.

  15. Pickens has the talent and “it” factor to be as good as AB. Hope he has the drive and determination.

  16. Ehh. Not a fair comparison. AB wasn’t drafted and expected to make an impact right away. It took him a few years to even get things going.

  17. This is stupid. AB was used primarily as a special teams guy early in his career. A better representation would be using AB’s first two seasons as a starting WR
