Love’s velocity increased dramatically throughout the year

If you’re like me, you had a lot of belief in Love after the flashes he showed in the Eagles game as well the pre season last year. There was always this constant anxiety however about some of his underthrows and how the ball would seemingly “hang up” on throws to the outside. After watching thirty years of Favre and Rodgers I couldn’t deny the difference in “zip” on the ball.

However, I believe that as he grew more confident in his mechanics, decision making, and receivers, we began seeing him throw some absolute piss missiles.

After the Steelers game Love spoke about Lafleur encouraging him to “let it rip”. “I think when Matt says, ‘Let it rip,’ it’s more of, don’t hesitate going through my reads, trust what I’m seeing out there, be confident in it and just let the ball fly. Don’t have any hesitation,” Love told a small group of reporters at his locker after practice Wednesday afternoon. “That’s definitely something that I’ve been trying to focus on is trusting my reads, trusting my feet. When it’s time to let the ball come out, just trust it and be confident in it — not playing trying not to make mistakes, if that makes sense.”

…and boy did he ever let it RIP down the stretch. Dude looked like a completely different quarterback compared to the shell shocked player we saw against Oakland. It was one of the more gratifying and exciting developments in my life as a Packers fan to watch him unleash his potential all over the league.

I think the best way to highlight this “let it rip” mentality is to watch Bo Melton’s highlights from last year. Melton came on down the stretch as Love was simultaneously finding his groove. Do yourself a favor and watch this video and pay close attention to Love just fucking uncorking lasers out there. Go Pack Go and fuck the Bears.

  1. I hope it continues. I have been super impressed with Love and I’m excited for the future. That being said I was watching some old clips of Rodgers and the zip on his ball is just different.

  2. I remember early in the season this sub was full of “he doesn’t have the arm” posts. I always felt he was just trying to be to careful with it, and ‘place’ it
