People say he was injured early on but honestly i don’t remember him being out for an extended period of time.
Remember at the start of training camp the usual Laker insiders actually weren’t even sure Rui, the dude who helped us get to the playoffs and performed his ass off would even start? You could argue the lakers probably wanted vando but with HOW quickly ham just automatically turned to TP once vando went down…..ham had agendas the minute we signed him.

This is what confuses me.
Rui is the classic good player but was somewhat spoiled by a worse league (Japan) during his early life and developed some bad defensive mentality due to being highly demanded at the offensive end.
But he has the athleticism, the size and the mental humbleness to pick defense and board game up, as seen by the last 15-20 games. Even tho he might not be Vanderbilt, as long as his defensive contribution yields positive with his offence, that’s more than good enough. Dude’s heart is in the game and wants to perform well.
If you gave this piece of material to any coach in the NBA, they will see him as an opportunity to develop into a star, if not a core rotation player like Aaron Gordon. And they can present him as an achievement on their resume
But Ham, a so-called defence orientated coach is like, nah, he splits time with T.Prince. Like no offence to Prince but come on.
Ok I get it ham sucks and we should’ve finished higher… at this point what can we do about it? Our FO fucked up not firing him, but they didn’t, and here we are, beating a dead horse over and over that won’t change shit.
All we can do now is support the boys and not turn rabid if things don’t go well. Ham won’t be here next season I think that is a given, so let’s just see what we can do.

Bum had the options of rui vando and prince and chose the worst ☠️☠️☠️☠️
Had Rui played better earlier he would’ve started earlier. But Rui was shooting poorly and defending poorly. His shooting really started to pick up in early January after missing 5 games and, because of that, he started playing more. It makes sense. Rui worked his way into the starting lineup after improving his shooting, as it should be.
