Posting a random Steeler every day until kickoff or I forget – Day 41: Kelvin Beachum

OT Kelvin Beachum (2012-2015)

Kelvin Beachum was taken in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Steelers out of Southern Methodist University, where he had been a four-year starter. Although he was small for an offensive tackle, pre-draft scouts were high on his lateral movement and quickness off the ball.

His rookie year, Beachum was named the third left tackle behind Max Starks and Mike Adams to begin the regular season. He would make his first start on November 18 against the Baltimore Ravens after both Marcus Gilbert and Mike Adams suffered injuries. His second year, he earned the starting left tackle position in Week 7 over Mike Adams, and kept the job moving forward. Over his four years in Pittsburgh, he started in 39/44 games that he was active for.

During the final year of his rookie contract, he suffered a torn ACL in week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals and was placed on IR for the remainder of the season. As a free agent that off-season, he was ranked the second-best free agent offensive tackle by PFF and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. After just one season in Jacksonville, he went on to spend 3 seasons with the New York Jets, and has now been with the Arizona Cardinals since 2020. Known for his charitable and philanthropic work off the field, Beachum is a 2x nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, both for the Jets in 2018 and the Cardinals in 2021.

  1. Dude was a solid T for us during the Killer Bs era. Nothing but love for the man

  2. Beachum was the team’s first good LT since Marvel

I remembered during Charlie Batch’s last game, they subbed in Trai Essex at center and stopped the game to have a little ceremony for Essex playing all 5 positions on the offensive line. The next year, they drafted Beachum, and by midway through the following year, Beachum had played all 5 o-line positions plus tight end.

That’s my favorite Kelvin Beachum fact.
