How would everyone here rank Mahomes’ major accolades?

This offseason shitpost came to me when I saw a twitter post of a Bengals fan replying to a Chiefs post with a picture of Burrow holding the AFCCG trophy, presumably in an effort to talk shit. It got me thinking if Mahomes' first Lamar Hunt Trophy even cracks his top-10 accolades, even though Burrow's first (and only) is unquestionably his biggest accomplishment.

I'm also talking physical awards, so not including All-Pros or Pro Bowls (not that anyone counts those), and not including leading the league in statistical categories or breaking records. I think that there's a clear hierarchy of Lombardi > Regular Season MVP > SB MVP > Lamar Hunt Trophy > everything else, so the list isn't crazy in its variety, but others may disagree with that order.

Personally I'd go:

1. SB LVIII Lombardi

  • Solidified the dynasty and cemented the legacy of a lot of players by going back-to-back.

2. SB LVII Lombardi

  • Ended the third-longest SB "drought" in the team's history and proved that LIV wasn't a fluke.

3. SB LIV Lombardi

  • Feels weird to put the first SB as the least-important, and I know a lot would disagree with me, but it's clear now that this team was never going to stop at one SB win, so the latter two hold greater weight for legacy purposes.

4. 2018 MVP

  • Top-3 QB season of all-time, and the biggest entrance any player has made in the NFL.

5. 2022 MVP

  • Again, proved that 2018 wasn't a fluke, and Mahomes did it with one of the weakest casts an NFL MVP has ever had. His top three WRs (JuJu, MVS, and Justin Watson) had an average of 345 yards and 2 TDs the following year.

6. SB LVII MVP

  • One of the best and most efficient SB performances of all-time, Mahomes played flawlessly against a tough Eagles defense that had allowed 7 PPG in the playoffs leading up to the SB.

7. SB LIV MVP

  • This and the LVIII MVP are kind of a toss-up since Mahomes took over in the 4th qtr/OT of both games, but Jet Chip Wasp is an iconic play in Chiefs lore (it even has its own Wikipedia page), so this one gets the nod from me.

8. SB LVIII MVP

  • A very solid game against another great defense concluding with an incredible walk-off TD. Again, hard to say that there's a "worst" MVP performance, but the defense did more in this game to help Mahomes than any of his other SBs.

9. 2022 Lamar Hunt Trophy

  • Beat the Bengals and shut up a few jabronis.

10. 2023 Lamar Hunt Trophy

  • Beat statistically one of the greatest teams of all-time on the road. Definition of a legacy game.

11. 2019 Lamar Hunt Trophy

  • Somewhat expected that the Chiefs would beat the Titans, even though they were having a Cinderella run at the time. Game felt over when Mahomes had his iconic 27-yard rushing TD in the final moments of the first-half.

12. 2018 Offensive Player of the Year Award

  • Cool award to have, but is clearly second-fiddle to that year's MVP.

13. 2020 Lamar Hunt Trophy

  • A surprisingly boring game, especially by Chiefs-Bills standards. Also a bittersweet game, beating up on a 13-3 team and then losing to a 11-5 team a couple of weeks later. Kinda want to forget this season in general.

14. Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year

  • Yes, there's a physical trophy for this. Normally it's a pretty cool award since it spans all professional and amateur sports in the world, but the fact that Mahomes was one of five recipients in 2020 makes it "meh" it in my view. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif won it that year too, which is definitely cool.

  1. For me, it goes

Super Bowl win in any order.

    AFCCG win in any order.

Super Bowl MVP in any order.

    League MVP in any order.

Everything else and none of them matter.

  2. I don’t know. That first Lamar hunt trophy was pretty special. Maybe not SB special but definitely above some of the others on this list. Maybe just under the SB trophies.

  3. I think the 2020 Lamar Hunt Trophy should be much higher, and way higher than the 2018 OPoTY. To be honest, I disagree with a lot of this list order

  4. It’s weird wasp has a Wikipedia page but corn dog doesn’t, corn dog has won 2 super bowls.

  5. I am sort of partial to the 2022 AFC championship game.  Beating Joe Burrow’s Bengals on one leg was a special moment.  The burrowhead nonsense and all that.

  6. 3 wins in a row is a dynasty, nobody in football has done it yet. Not sure why people throw around that word like it means nothing. If they win this next year it will “solidify the dynasty”. So far they’ve just done the back to back. I’m nitpicking forsure, but I think it’s an important distinction.

  7. It’s very easily the most impressive start to a career ever, it’s one of the best six-year runs ever in any career. The man’s going for goats status.

  8. I’m starting to think the Eagles Super Bowl might be the biggest.

After trading Tyreek, having the 16th ranked defense, spraining his ankle in the Divisional round, he still comes back to play a perfect second half of football to hang 38 and win.

Without that win, what does his legacy look like right now? Does the team still have the confidence to run back and do it again the next year? Is there a situation where Mahomes is know as the guy who won it once back in 2019-20 and couldn’t get it done again.

We’ll never know, cuz he got the fucking job done.
