A message to Josh Allen: put the work in.

Josh Allen via Bussin' with the Boys podcast, July 2023: “My strength coaches are going to hate that I’m gonna say this, the last two off seasons I haven’t done really anything before OTAs.” The team, with $850 million in taxpayer money, is building a new stadium, and the QB, costing $40 million, does nothing in the offseason until it's organized. This is a huge issue. And the Bills will have the nerve to ask fans in one of the lowest income NFL markets to pay big $$$ for PSLs. Bills fans and the people of Buffalo need to wake up. Josh Allen is failing you. He is relying too much on natural talent and not putting in the work.

He is not that committed to his craft. He followed up the terrible Cinci loss with his laughable "never more focused on football" quote which entailed golf, Mexico vacations, dating movie stars, and appearing in national TV ads. He attended all four golf majors and the Kentucky Derby last year. Throwing sessions with Jordan Palmer are not enough. Does he watch film, have a personal trainer, work on his mental game, follow a diet, or do any injury prevention? Fans want to SEE IT because of what he said last summer. He threw away the opener against the Jets with his horrible decision making and snaps off at Diggs, saying it’s just one game. Screaming at his receiver after HE played like trash. Just pathetic.

This offseason is following the same pattern. Josh Allen: "I wanna get back in the lab as soon as possible," has been followed up with Barstool trivia, celebrity golf, Paris vacations, Scottsdale weddings, and a fucking Grant Horvat YouTube golf video. Stefon Diggs was trying to tell you all something about Josh Allen. The guy doesn't lead, his decisions cost them, and he doesn't work on his craft. Josh Allen needs to grow up and start taking things more seriously. QBs are subjected to a different standard. QBs set the tone and are expected to be the hardest workers on the team. You want a Lombardi, put the work in.

  1. Does he not put it all out on the field every Sunday. Let him live his life. Just because we don’t see doesn’t mean he doesn’t put the work in.

  2. The dude commits himself to his craft the entire season and balls out year after year. He probably needs the off-season to relax and reset before going all in again.

I’m less productive at work if I don’t get a day off to mentally reset and do something fun.

  3. Have you seen Mahomes with his shirt off? Does it look like he’s putting time in training during the off season?

  4. It’s funny how non-athletes fundamentally do not understand what “off-season” means

  5. I don’t nearly have as visceral of an opinion as you do here. Nearly all of the athletes that you would likely list as guys focused on their craft and leading examples of what hard work looks like in the offseason, also take vacations, golf, attend events etc… they just don’t get the same media coverage.

I do agree with you though, that during the days where we aren’t seeing what he is doing out and about, he needs to start to dedicating more time to being ready for OTAs and getting in mid-season shape as soon as possible. He might be doing this already and not posting about it which is great. But when he publicly makes comments about not prioritizing this it does seem like there is something left on the table re: his preparation.

  6. I’m sorry this post is really pissing me off , what do you do for a living OP? Why aren’t you preparing for work right now on your day off? Other people are expecting you to be more prepared tomorrow when you get to work, you shouldn’t be living your life…..Josh would be disappointed that you are not studying your craft right now.

  7. I don’t care what he does from February to April. April to June he’s been doing the right things in going to OTAs and working out with the bills strength and conditioning teams. June-July id like to see him throw with the newer guys and keep up with workouts, but I’ve followed him long enough to know that he will never post what he’s up to on social media so we will never know.

I would also just say that Stef (my fave player btw), never came to OTAs, missed the throwing session with other receivers last July, and spends just as much time on fashion as josh does on golf. He’s just manipulating you into thinking he cares more about football by posting every workout on social media. You’re free to believe whatever you want, but if you feel this way about Josh you should just be a fan of another team.

  8. He was coming off an injury so he rested for 2 months before off season workouts started. The josh slander this off-season is unreal. No one quoted this podcast from LAST off-season so much until this off season. Also, just because he isn’t filming and posting all of his workouts/training doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
I swear people want players to train 24/7/365. They need rest and recovery.

  9. Pretty sure we got that new stadium thanks to #17.

And pretty, pretty sure we’ve become and will be a legit SB contender for years to come, thanks to #17.

I’d be willing to say he is far more committed to his craft than anything you’ve tried in your life.

    So…

GFY and stay consistent with it.

Dude has no clue what kind of QB hell landscape we had before #17 for 20 plus years.

    Moron.

  10. If there’s one person in Buffalo who’s not failing us it’s Josh Allen. You want to be upset with someone, be upset with the owners who are are leeching money out of the community despite being some of the richest people on the planet or at public officials who greenlit the current plans. Allen has put the Bills on his shoulders every year since he got here. He’s allowed to have a social life and to have fun. He doesn’t owe us every second of his life.

    You sound like a clown

  11. But if he said he wanted to come to their team, would they take him? In a heartbeat, and it wasn’t josh allen that dropped an important pass that hit him on the hands last season that could’ve given us a lead.

  12. The guy has been the second best QB in football for four years with an argument to be made that he’s the best. He should continue to do what he’s doing.

The problem with the team is not the players especially him.

  13. Worst take ever. You do know that athletes can have lives, right? They’re not prisoners to the team. Lotta hate against a guy who sets multiple team and league records every season… Check yourself.

  14. Part of what gets you career longevity is giving your body a rest. And your mind too, mental burnout is bad, for all career fields.

He’s also a QB, not a DE. What they need physically is different. Oh and giving your shoulder and elbow a rest is critical for any QB or pitcher that wants a long career.

  15. Bro, read the article you posted. Everyone handles stress differently, and the football season is definitely stressful for a QB. Josh consistently balls out for the Bills, he puts in more effort than anyone on the field. If he says the best thing for him is to take a few months off to relax and reset, then let him, he earned it. Eating, sleeping, and breathing football 24/7/365 can be absolutely exhausting. I would rather he relax for a few months and show up mentally ready than do nothing but football all off-season and arrive week 1 already burnt out.

  16. The reason we don’t hear about other quarterbacks off season training is because no one cares what they do. Take the Washington commanders, for instance. I don’t know who their quarterback is and if he showed up a golf tournament I wouldn’t care. No one is going to invite Mac Jones to a celebrity golf tournament. He’s probably out golfing with some friends.

  17. OP, I feel like you need a really hard slap in the face then someone to sit you down and tell you to stop it

  18. We’re going to need you to itemize everything you’ve done this weekend and every weekend prior and going forward. Everything you’re doing for your craft. I want receipts. I pay your salary just as much as you pay Allen’s.

You sound like a total jackhole.

  19. I wrote a whole thing out and then decided not to post it because someone this dumb isn’t worth the time.

JA not dOiNg WoRk In ThE lAb isn’t the problem with this team.

  20. I’ve been concerned about the same.

When he first entered the league, he spent one of two off seasons training with Jordan Palmer. Almost every NFL journalist recognized the improved mechanics of his throwing motion, footwork, and most notably accuracy improvements after the time spent with Palmer.

Then, after having that breakout year, you stopped hearing about him attending those trainings all summer and instead started seeing all the other stuff…TV commercials, golf trips, etc.

I wish we saw more training videos and less everything-else-but-football that we’ve been seeing him enjoy during the off seasons of late.

  21. The dude gets an off season and a personal life. Let him do his thing. I will say that I’d be stoked if he spent some time in the lab with Jordan Palmer. Jordan seems to have an impact on Josh

  22. This is like saying Austin Matthew’s isn’t dedicated to hockey, he is literally on the edge of hitting 70 goals this season as I type this.

  23. You have a better idea how the squirrel in your yard is living than what JA is doing in the offseason. Get a hobby. It’s a long off season.

  24. This is such a joke. Are you saying he can’t golf or date someone – a movie star or not, it doesn’t matter – that he can’t take time for himself? You have no idea what he’s doing day in and day out.
The season can be taxing, both mentally and physically. I don’t care who you are, but every one needs rest.
You just sit behind a keyboard spewing crap off. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, but it is wholly unwarranted and unwanted.
