Honestly this guy doesn’t deserve the downvotes

I will forever be a New Jersey Devils fan, I’m born and raised here, I was a diehard nets fan and stopped supporting when they moved. I always said I will never support a team that doesn’t represent Jersey. Currently I’m a Phillies fan in baseball, simply because I don’t think Jersey will ever get a baseball team and I have family in Philly. I’m just a very casual fan though, watch only highlights, and if Jersey brought a baseball team here I will INSTANTLY drop the Phillies and become a NJ fan. I never support a football team since we don’t have one that’s actually ours, when we get an nfl team I’ll support them. In conclusion, I can see and understand this man. I do believe he can still be a fan of both though. Thank you for hearing my Ted talk.

  1. I mean. He doesn’t *have* to switch teams but I totally get it.

OP if you’re still reading, don’t let anyone tell you how to be a fan. Local team will always be better if in person hockey is what you love.

  2. Why any hate? Where is it written you can only like one team?

My best life long friend is a die hard rangers fan. There is no holding back between us when they play each other though. However we both picked an out of conference western conference and a Canadian team to root for together.

When we retire, we plan on doing a stadium tour together with me wearing a devils jersey and him in a rangers jersey.

Rivalries are fun and passionate, but is still just a game.

  3. Dude is making himself drama over nothing, he can easily root for both teams especially since they are opposite conferences. That’s good enough even if the local team becomes his #1

  4. How about we don’t gatekeep fandom. I had a Central Jersey influence on sports fandom all my life. I’m a Met fan and that sucks. Hell I’m a diehard Rutgers fan and didn’t even go to that school, just have a lot of family connections.

It took me 30+ years to come around and start liking the Devils. It’s been a fun ride ever since. What I like about it is the Jersey community around this team.

How awesome is it to go to your teams games. Good for him for getting a team that will represent his Salt Lake. I prefer the salty sea air of the Jersey shore, cheers to both.

  5. Do what you want, but I’ve lived in Seattle since 1996… been a Devils fan since the early 90s… followed the team for years… the Kraken showed up… bought the new Kraken jersey… went to the Devils/Kraken game year one… I knew who my people were… found myself pulling for the Devils… it’s hard to change old habits…

I’m happy to attend Kraken games, but I know who my real team is.

  6. Who cares honestly? Everyone is free to support whoever they want. I grew up in Ct. fell in love with the devils at a whalers game as a kid. I’ve lived all over but now I’m a florida resident for the last 15 years. But I’m still a die hard devils fan. To me, where you live shouldn’t matter. But everyone is free to support whatever team they want.

At the end of the day, we’re all hockey fans. I love hockey no matter who is playing honestly. But my team will always be the devils fan. But if that guy is going to root for his new team, I wish him all the luck in the world. I’ll gladly support anyone being a fan of any team (except the rags….)

    Let’s go Devils!!!!!
