A lot of our guys were underutilized in the corner.

We ran a fairly simple offense this year. I’m hoping that next year we’ll spice it up a bit and work on some kick out 3 passing for easy offense.

For context, the first value is % of 3pa taken in the corner and the second value is their shooting clip in the corner. So for example, Jeff green takes 45% of 3s in a corner and makes 34.7% of them.

  1. Getting Jabari and Brooks more looks there should be a priority for the coaching staff this summer. But Vanvleet and Green initiate too much of the offense to get too many looks out there. Good info though.

  2. Not sure how realistic it is to get Fred and Jalen the same quality of looks represented here at a higher rate than they currently do. With Fred it would involve playing off ball a lot more and for Jalen, I imagine increasing the number of attempts would ruin the razor-thin edge he currently has over league average efficiency from the corners.

Jabari, on the other hand… against certain matchups he should be feasting out there. Really hope to see that number up.

  3. We had issues getting the ball to the corner. Harden and Paul made those passes in traffic look easy at times.

  4. Every time Fred shot from the corner this season I expected it to go in… especially on those 2nd chance opportunities. Dude is just such a sniper from there.

  5. you can only have so many players in the corner at one time (2 at most), and it’s widely known as the best shot in basketball so defenses prioritize minimizing those looks

to say we underutilized it is a gross oversimplification of the game of basketball

hopefully if jalen/amen develop as primary offensive initiators we can stick FVV over in the corner more often, where he’s obviously lethal. tough to get a lot of corner 3s when you’re facilitating the offense
