  1. With a first round meeting against the Islanders already locked up, it looks like the Canes will be prioritizing the health of their top dogs for tonight’s game in Columbus.

It’s an abnormal-looking group at morning skate inside Nationwide Arena, but here’s what I see –

    Teravainen – Drury – Necas
    Nadeau – Kuznetsov – Fast
    Comtois – Kotkaniemi – Noesen
    Lemieux – Martinook – Blake

Skjei, Burns, and Orlov are rotating on one side of things, while Chatfield, DeAngelo, and Morrow work at the other end.

Spencer Martin is in what is normally the starter’s crease. Pyotr Kochetkov is at the other end.

By process of elimination, here’s who is not skating:

    • Sebastian Aho
    • Frederik Andersen
    • Jake Guentzel
    • Seth Jarvis
    • Brett Pesce
    • Jaccob Slavin
    • Jordan Staal
    • Andrei Svechnikov

It is possible that one or some of them wind up playing, we’ll see what Rod Brind’Amour has to say after the skate wraps up.

The newly-recalled Dylan Coghlan is not on the ice either, but I am guessing that he has not arrived yet.

  2. Love it, honestly.

It’s fun to get a glimpse of the future while making sure you’re healthy for the important stuff later this week.

  3. Damn so no 90 points for Aho. Oh well, not expecting to win this one but hopefully we’ll see some indications of what the future has in store.

  4. Perfect game to put Martin in net. Martin has proved himself an oddly good “occasional use” goalie who’s really good if you don’t under/over play him.

  5. Excited to see Cogs. Think he got a really bad rep here. Don’t expect that much but I’m hoping for just solid D from him in case he is needed.

  6. Getting Martin, Morrow, TDA, Lemuix and these new guys Ice time in this last game is great idea.

Playoffs last a long time and we’ll need depth….

Which we have so much of.

I don’t want to jinx this but I’m very optimistic this year.

  7. Now official, players not dressing for the #Canes tonight in Columbus:

    • Sebastian Aho
    • Frederik Andersen
    • Jake Guentzel
    • Seth Jarvis
    • Brett Pesce
    • Jaccob Slavin
    • Jordan Staal
    • Andrei Svechnikov

It is expected that Max Comtois (#44) will play in his first game with the team.

TBD on Dylan Coghlan, who arrived while the team was on the ice.
