STAYING OR GOING: Which Raptors will be here in 2025 and who is probably out?

  1. Some interesting tidbits from Wolstat:

    Not going anywhere:

    >Immanuel Quickley: Restricted free agent will sign with Toronto, or the Raptors will match any offer.

    Probably staying:

    >Jakob Poeltl: Toronto is much better team with Poeltl on the floor. They were lost without him because of the defensive presence he provides… the team is nowhere close to contending and he might be too old to be this effective by the time they are. It’s possible he’s moved if a decent first-round pick could be retrieved, but we’d bet he stays.

    >Javon Freeman-Liberty: Organization likes him and could see out the task of turning him into a point guard from a scoring guard.

    50/50 they are back:

    >Chris Boucher: The Canadian big man has a year left on his contract and can help a team. Darko Rajakovic hasn’t been a big fan because he doesn’t seem to think Boucher works in his system. Can’t see Toronto attaching an asset to get rid of Boucher, but if someone will take him without one it might be best for both sides.

    >Jalen McDaniels: A complete free agent bust, McDaniels showed none of the things that attracted the Raptors to him. He has guaranteed money owing next season, and Rajakovic has talked him up, but he could just be cut loose.

  2. Please send McDaniels to the moon for the love of god. Or, y’know… kidnap his brother and replace them.

  3. McDaniels is probably cut if they can’t find anything.

If BB can be traded for a contract and like three or four 2nds, you could package Boucher, McDaniels and one of those 2nds an dump the salary on a tanking/rebuilding team.

As an expring though, I’d imagine Boucher has more value and if they got offered a 2nd and no salary back for him they’d probably jump at the chance, same goes for McDaniels (who has zero value right now) tbf though, I’d take pick 60 for McDaniels 😂

  4. There is no way Poeltl is going to be traded anytime soon unless he is part of a package that nets us an All-Star, especially if we end up losing this season’s pick.

  5. Good chance over half of this team be gone next season. The talent drops off exponentially outside of BBQ. I’ve heard rumours Yak wants out (he left a rebuilding situation and doesn’t want to be part of another one), given his decent contract and that he’s nearing 30 I doubt he will stay at least not for a full season. Gradey is still a raw prospect and will take time to truly develop but is on that rookie contract so he’d be safe.
GTJ, probably safe to say is gone or signed and traded later in the season, he just doesn’t have that long-term potential and I think we’ve probably witnessed his ceiling already.
Kelly might stay and act as a playable veteran big for this team. I would like Temple to come back on a vet min, dude is another great mentor but there’s a good chance he’ll retire given he’s almost 40.
No one else really has proved they deserved to be resigned, Nwora is 25 already and on his 3rd team in his first 3 seasons in the league. Abaji is undersized and can’t shoot at all, his defence isn’t good enough to justify him being out there with his other big deficiency. McDaniels I think we can agree is just bad and nowhere close to being as talented as his brother.
Brown will be gone with his ridiculously huge contract as an undersized player who can’t shoot and is not have enough of a defensive impact to justify keeping, also nearing 30. Looks like we may have to overpay an upcoming free agent outside of IQ just to have actual NBA-level players.

  6. Staying: Scotty, RJ, IQ, Dick, Kelly, Liberty

    Going:

    – Ochai: can’t shoot and can’t finish in the paint, however he is okay on D. Could be a great player in a packaged deal.

    – McDaniels aka Ronald McDonald: …… This guy shouldn’t even be allowed to wear basketball shoes. He stinks at all facets of the game and in a trade he has negative value..meaning the raps would have to either pay or give up something just to move his ass. How the F did he make it into the NBA??

    – Chris: there was probably a solid attempt to move him this season, but I suspected the trade(s) fell apart and so he stayed with the team. But in the off season I expect the Raps to move Chris. There is just no room for him with Yak and Kelly on the team.

    – GTJr: too hot and cold, and wants too much cash. Furthermore he has expressed interest in testing the market. Also, he has some value so he would be great in a single player trade or in a package deal… assuming nobody picks him up.

    – Brown: 100 percent gone, in fact I suspect he was very disappointed at the fact that he wasn’t moved during the trade deadline. This is not a place that he wants to play, and he’s nothing special, can’t shoot the 3, doesn’t see the floor, and more often than not f’s up in the paint.

    – Nwora: gone because I don’t like his hairstyle.

    –  Temple: 100 percent gone, everyone has already read their Temple obituary.
