Exit interview MegaThread: Coach Keefe and most of the Wizards Players

Exit interviews from the Wizards' YouTube channel with some notes sprinkled in

Wizards Coach Brian Keefe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R_6YNvWx_M

  • Some things he talks about are how he saw some individual growth but wanted them to focus on improving as a team. When questioned about individual plans for guys approval it didn't sound like he had something lined up specifically, but said generally there's a plan for improving that he's been a part of. He doesn't have plans for a possible interview for the full time gig at the moment because the season just ended.

Wizards Shooting Guard Jordan Poole https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8JhS2lB0aU

Wizards Point Guard Tyus Jones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_Ljmlcu13E

  • Sounds like if it's up to him, he's signing back on for next season. He said if he does sign here again, his advantage is that he can hit the ground running because he knows the personnel and their habits. He knows guys' tendencies, where they want the ball, etc, so he can hit the ground running. He's viewed himself as a starter for some time now.

Wizards Shooting Guard Corey Kispert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0090w8MaDO0

  • Talks about the search for the next coach, valuing transparency, how he's liking using his strength to finish through contact, and how having his wife who is also a baller helps him talk through the game and work on his game. He says he loves playing uptempo because it forces you to stay in shape, be better at making decisions, take advantage of defenses and he actually wants the team to play even faster next season.

Wizards Forward Kyle Kuzma https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XR9sFQbM48

  • Kuz talks generally about leading the guys and how he's got to do more next season in making guys better. Says he can't just score 30 and expect that to lead to success. He also said he's going to work on being in much better shape to take on the weight of being at the top of the opponents scouting report each game. (Note, Paul George said a similar thing after his Pacers lost to Lebron years ago, that he didn't know he was going to be the #1 option and so he hadn't prepared his body)

Wizards Shooting Guard Landry Shamet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_ib4aO7Qw8

  • Shamet speaks in glowing terms about the organization and his teammates. How it's the closest he's ever gotten to teammates, and how he has made a lot of bonds. A reporter (Wallace) even comments on how heartfelt of a statement it was.

Wizards Forward Deni Avdija https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97EA43VLQxA

  • He feels like he got better this year and he can be even better next season.

Wizards Forward Bial Coulibaly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvKz3twrwcg

  • Says he's been using his left hand a lot with his right in the cast but hopes to have the cast off soon to work on being on the French national team for the Olympics, especially since France is hosting the Olympics and his family could watch him play.

Wizards Center Marvin Bagley III https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0SXLz7UcSo

Wizards heart and soul Anthony "AG" Gill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tLdk3qhfWE

  • AG talks in glowing terms about how he feels the Wizards will be atop the league one day. And that even if he isn't part of it once they get there, he's happy to be on the ground floor, helping build the foundation. He also responds to a question about having to be ready to jump into games when you haven't played all year. He says nobody cares, and that you have to be ready. Says his family helps breathe life into him, at some level hey it's my job, and then lastly that his teammates are counting on him to stay ready and if he gets in a game and plays poorly, he's disrespecting his teammates.

Wizards Center Richaun Holmes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBNlqTNwrlc

  • Most of what he responds to are questions about his transition and he says ultimately it went well. He says he'll be in Chicago this summer as his son finishes up school there. And lastly he gets a question about him saying Bilal was a great defender. He expounds on it saying Bilal is just one of the best defender's he's ever seen. That even without knowing tendencies or fully knowing the gameplan, that Bilal's ability to play defense and do it well is phenomenal. Says while the offensive side is developing, that he's honestly looking forward to watching him on defense the next few years (because he thinks Bilal could develop into one of the best defenders period).

Wizards Guard in Professional Basketball Johnny Davis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWXWNRkZlx8

  • Most notable things JD says is that he got better this year. Then he's asked if he reworked his shot and he says yes, that it's a feel thing, and that he's working with a few different people on getting a shot that feels good and also goes in. He jokes that he watches Corey shoot and he's like "Damn, how does he shoot like that!?"

All in all, some fun interviews to watch for Wizards fans. Definitely watch em if you get time, they say much more than I've been able to type out here.
