  1. It was good for the Giants to replace Gabe Kapler and some of the coaches. His style of managing, relying on constant line changes, pinch hitters, and analytics, for the platoon advantage, gained little on offense, wrecked the confidence of hitters, and impaired the defense. It didn’t work. Hopefully, he learned from the experience, and maybe he will have success in his new job.

  2. After initially hating the hire, I came around on Kapler a fair bit during his tenure.

That being said, I certainly wasn’t shedding any tears when he was fired. I realize that questioning the effort level of professional athletes is one of the biggest “fan taboos” out there, but the team looked absolutely checked-out and “out of it” down the stretch last year, even when the third wild card spot was still a realistic possibility.

  3. People forget that Kapler initially led the club to 100+ wins and a Division championship. It didn’t last but the guy is hardly a bum.

  4. This is a pretty good read. I don’t think he’s going to reflect too much on the Giants at this point in his career and life, though, which is why he chose to focus on his current job.

We will have to let the dust settle and see how Melvin and Farhan complete their Giants tenures. Then we can have a full picture into how to judge things. As of now, the only guarantee is that things will be pretty darn divisive.
