  1. Order in terms of want and ability to land:

    Rod Brind’Amour > Mike Sullivan <unlikely:likely> Ruff > Berube. That’s it. That’s the list.

I know a lot of fans are all in on Berube but if you look at his rosters he has never had a 90+ point player on any of them. Not sure if that’s talent or system but it’s something to note. For example, Claude Giroux put up 86 and 73 points under Berube from 2013-2015. But he put up 93 before Berube arrived in 2011-12 and 102 after he left in 2017-18.

Berube had a much different roster in St. Louis than what he would get in Buffalo and it’s not like a pivot could be made to reshape it for him. I think players like Cozens, Tuch and Benson would thrive under Berube but Thompson and Dahlin would be negatively impacted.

  2. I’m team berube for now. I’d love to have lindy as an assistant but i feel like he wouldn’t wanna, which i don’t blame him.

  3. I’ve got a question: how many of us actually know what coaching style each coach employs? I could potentially name who 1/2 of available coaches coached and that’s about it.

I consider myself a pretty hockey obsessed person. Is there a group in our sub that actually knows this stuff or…?

  4. Look, I loved Lindy as much as the next guy when he was here. But in four seasons in NJ with a similarly young, talented team like ours, he put up lackluster numbers. The one season they found success was the one year Andrew Brunette was there as assistant coach. He left before this season and took a lackluster Nash team to ~100 points while the Devils had a 20-30 point regression, their defensive metrics fell off a cliff, and the room clearly quit on him.

I’m not saying he was the only problem in NJ – it’s just clear he isn’t part of the solution. And since their squad is similar to ours, it’s kind of silly to think it would be a lot different. Maybe I’m wrong and it would be. But the evidence does not suggest this is the case.

We need someone who is going to get the team to play a cleaner game all around. No more lazy drop passes, no more dogging it on the backcheck. I wanna see crisp passing, guys going to the net, and defensive play that frustrates the hell out of our opponents because even when they do finnnnallllly get a shot off, UPL is just a wall waiting for it.

  5. I love how the post season is two days old and we are already in full force shit posting mode.
