Whitecaps Cole Turney 4-5 tonight and batting .400

I heard about the West Michigan Whitecaps LH batting RF, Cole Turney who is tearing it up in High A and in town playing against the Dodgers affiliate, the Great Lakes Loons. Yesterday, he went 4-5 with a home run and 2 doubles. I decided to go to the game tonight and see Cole Turney play live. He managed to go 4-5 again. His first two hits came off the Loons starter, a crafty LH pitcher that only threw an 89mph fastball but could really spin it and caused some guys like Max Anderson fits. His slider didn't phase Turney at all. He waited on it and pulled a line drive into right field between the 1st and 2nd basemen. Next PA he took the lefty to left field and legged out a double. He faced RH pitching his 4th and 5th PAs and he hit another line drive to right field for hit #3 and then a hard grounder up the middle for hit #4. He reminded me of Wade Boggs.

I understand that Cole Turney was signed out of independent ball where he hit .533. His first year in the minors he hit over .400 with ~53 PAs. Today he was the most impressive player on the field. He legged out a double and he scored from 2nd base on a line drive straight to the left fielder, so he looks to have decent wheels. He has 9 hits in the first three games of the series. He seems to keep his balance and the spin didn't seem to faze him as it did some other players. He only swung at one bad pitch. I don't want to jinx him, but he looks like another Bigbie or Carpenter.

Max Anderson had a tough night. He looked off balance against the slider as did Campos. 3b Ian gold had 3 hits including a home run and catcher Josh Crouch had 2 hits including a grand slam.

I did speak with Cole Turney after the game. I told him I came here to see him. He came over and said "that's cool" and shook my hand and he wanted to know my name. He would have talked more but autograph seekers were after him. Could the former Independant baseball player be the next budding star?

I have video that I took with my phone of Coles 3rd and 4th hits but I don't know who to upload them. Can anyone help me?https://youtu.be/VyO8DglwwEE

  1. Appreciate the report. How did he look in the field? Did he look lost or is he at least passable?

Easy way is to upload to Youtube. You likely already have an account, so its just a matter of logging in and publishing the videos.
