Tom Fitzgerald End-of-Season Press Conference

Tom Fitzgerald End-of-Season Press Conference

  1. I am always think I am about to be on the Fire Fitz train, but he always comes out and these conferences and says the right things. And I doubt myself, hopefully he can make this season a distant memory.

  2. I kinda hate these pressers because they’re such lip service. Anybody paying attention knows that everything went wrong this season. Realistically the things you can fault Fitzgerald for were not firing Lindy sooner and not having a contingency plan for McLeod/bringing him back in the first place.

We found out Meier was missing his knees half the year, Fitz tried to get Saros, Markstrom (twice), Montembault and Allen earlier in the year to address goaltending and with Dougie’s injury we’d have to rely on rookie defencemen more and the PP would take a significant hit.

Whoever asked about McLeod needs to be named, shamed and punted in the dick

I still believe in Fitz and think he’s the guy, I just hope ownership does too, sees this year as a write-off and is willing to give him another 1-2 years for the team to develop into the contender they were looking like last year

  3. If only they hit the gym more often, the goalies would have made more saves…

  4. Anyone even thinking that Fitzgerald is somehow in “danger” of being fired is an absolute peasant. He has signed our core to ridiculous team friendly deals. There were a million things that went wrong this season that are out of a GM’s control. He tried to get a goalie and every team tried to bend him over. Had a deal w Calgary and that was scuttled. Allen wouldn’t waive his NMC (why the fuck not, idiot). I know most of the Devils fan base gets it but these mouth breathers that post on this site and Twitter are infuriating.

  5. Both Fitz’ and Green’s comments today were aligned in suggesting that several players on the roster are not fully committed, not fully doing things the right way on and off the ice, and just…sort of a little bot too unwilling to be fully committed professionals.

Well… that raises several questions. (1) Why? (2) Why were Ruff and Green unable to persuade guys to improve on that side of things? (3) Why wasn’t it a problem last year (also a very young roster and the same core players?

  6. The accountability thing really irks me….. every single player made mistakes but Holtz was the only one who was constantly benched. Not saying he’s the next Ovechkin or Bossy on offense or shouldn’t be semi competent on defense, but a bunch of players on this team made way more noticeable mistakes than Holtz on a nightly occurrence, yet only he was benched.

  7. The fact that he talked about practice habits in the first two minutes makes me smile. If you’re constantly giving up goals in the first two minutes it’s because you’re surprised by the speed of the other team. You could tell in certain games this year that it took them ten minutes to realize they need to go game speed instead of practice speed. For every other team in the league those two speeds are exactly the same.

  8. I have to admit I was a little intrigued by the “new dress code”. Is something wrong with the current dress code? Too many beanies?? Is that what is causing the 1-0 them? lol I just thought that was funny. He’s channeling Lou.
