Daily Minors Quick-Notes 4/18/24 – Heliot Ramos is Rolling


Heliot Ramos is continuing his great start to the season, with another home run and getting on base five times in six plate appearances. Carter Howell also had a great on-base day with Richmond, getting on base four of five times.

Player of the Game: DH Heliot Ramos: 2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 HR (5), 3 BB

Heliot Ramos has been having a good season, but getting on base five times out of six plate appearances with a home run might be a season best performance. Ramos has a batting line of .349/.438/.698 with three doubles, two triples, and five home runs, and now with eight walks to 18 strikeouts.

  • 2B Brett Wisely: 4-6, 2 R, 1 K, 1 CS (2) – The 4-hit game is a new season-high, beating two 3-hit games already this season.
  • SP Daulton Jeffries: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K – This was Jeffries’ first game without allowing an earned run this season, lowering his ERA to 3.38.
  • C Blake Sabol: 3-5, 2 RBI, 1 2B (1), 1 K – This is Sabol’s third multi-hit game in a row, but it’s also his first extra-base hit of the season, coming in his 13th game.

Player of the Game: RF Carter Howell: 2-3, 3 R, 1 3B (1), 2 BB, 1 K

Two walks for Howell plus his first triple helped lead the way for Richmond, with Howell scoring half of the team’s runs from the 5th spot in the batting order.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • SP Ryan Murphy: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 1 HBP – Murphy looked a lot better in this game after his kind of rough game last week, and his walks have ticked down with each of his three starts. He now has 11 strikeouts to six walks in 12.0 innings.
  • CF Vaun Brown: 1-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 2B (1) 1 BB, 2 K – Despite all the strikeouts, Vaun Brown picked up his first double today. He’s just 3-for-33 (.091) with 20 strikeouts to two walks.
  • RP Wil Jensen: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K – A great extended relief appearance for Jensen. He has 15 strikeouts to three walks in 11.0 innings.

Perez has played in seven games this season, being a catcher, and he has multiple hits in five of them. He’s hitting .379 on the year, with a .471 OBP and a .517 SLG.

  • SP Jack Choate: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 WP – A solid start for Choate, who has gone exactly 4.0 innings in each of his three starts, but his two walks were his first of the year.
  • LF Alexander Suarez: 1-4, 1 2B (1), 1 K – This was Suarez’s first game of the season.

Rademacher came in to finish this game pitching-wise, and had his second straight appearance of striking out five in 3.0 innings. He’s still whittling down his ERA after allowing three runs in his first appearance.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • SP Josh Bostick: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K – Bostick had gone 4.0 innings in each of his first two starts, but got roughed up in the first and was lifted (with no obvious injury reason).
  • CF Jonah Cox: 1-4, 1 R – Cox picked up another hit, and has at least one hit in seven of his nine games, with a .324 batting average.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • SS Maui Ahuna: 1-4, 3 K

  1. Any word on how Ramos is looking in the OF this year? They don’t seem willing for Soler to be anything but the everyday DH, so barring injuries I don’t see how Ramos gets consistent ABs in the majors when he does get recalled.

    Anyway, great work as always, I look forward to these summaries daily.

  2. It seems like Will Jensen has continued to be good in his second season at AA. Any thoughts on if/when he will get a chance at AAA?
