Finalized Steelers Pre-Draft Visits and Meetings

  1. We met with BTJ at the combine and Quinyon at the Senior bowl, and like you mentioned, we had dinners with the Alabama trio. That might have been all the pre-draft contact they needed. I don’t think it’s a lock that Kahn continues to run the same pre-draft requirements for draft picks that Colbert did

  2. One of Mims/Fuaga/Fautanu/Guyton in R1 and one of Ladd/Pearsall/Corley or Frazier/Barton in R2 would be my preference of this group. Mitchell and Wiggins would be the land mines I’m hoping to avoid in R1.

  3. One thing I noticed compared to last year is that we brought in a few more guys who are projected 1st round picks and particularly guys who might be going in the late 1st round. I think they’re going to let the draft come to them but I feel like they’re going to be prepared to trade down in the 1st round if the right guy doesn’t fall to them at 20. Could be with a team like Buffalo, Arizona, Detroit, or maybe even (tinfoil hat time) with the 49ers as part of a pick swap trade package for Aiyuk. It could be them just doing their due diligence but a few of these guys (JPJ, Guyton, Wiggins, DeJean, Frazier, McKinstry, or maybe still Barton) are more so in play at 31 rather than 20.

  4. I wonder if some of the guys they haven’t met with like Olu and Arnold (I know they had dinner with Arnold) were just because they don’t expect them to be available but would still be comfortable taking them. Saw a mock draft where Olu fell and was available but we took Fautanu instead. I just feel like they couldn’t pass on Olu if he fell that far

  5. This entire offseason they’ve been acting like they’re in win now mode and that they feel like they have a small window to win for Cam Heyward.

Now we have no idea if they’re really letting that idea influence their decision making but if we presume that it is then it makes guys like Mims, Guyton, and Fashanu less likely and adds to the likelihood of guys like Fautanu, Barton, and Latham who are plug and play guys.
