  1. Meh.

I feel he’s saying this to get a contract going this summer. Ain’t no one wanna sit around with the uncertainty and feel like they’re a rental that’s gonna get used as a pawn before or as soon as the contracts up

  2. Wouldn’t look into these quotes that much, especially when many of them are taken out of context. The dude isn’t even eligible for an extension yet.
Just gotta wait and see what happens, no point in worrying about this rn

  3. Conroy will throw in a giant assfuck Lego star destroyer during extension talks and everything will be fine.

  4. I feel with Kuzmenko and Sharangovich, I am happy if either wants to sign a fair contract to stay in Calgary or gets a good return in trade.

  5. Could just be posturing for contract talks.

Regardless, I’m comfortable with Conroy’s approach to UFA’s here. He’ll make a fair offer, maybe even more than fair and either Sharangovich signs or he’ll be traded for more assets.

  6. I really like Sharky, but I’d like to see how he does next season before talking extension, let’s see if this season wasn’t just a one hit wonder first.

  7. I wouldn’t read too much into this, largely because the quote is taken out of context. We don’t know how it was said or if it was part of a longer answer.

And when it comes to Sharangovich, I think you really do have to take his speaking style into account. He’s pretty reserved and shy, and he hedges his answers a lot. And while his English has gotten better, it’s still not his first language.

So, when you take all of this into account, it seems a little premature to say that he doesn’t want to stay or that he doesn’t like it here. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, personally. 🙂

  8. Just remember Johnny blew smoke up our ass for years about extending then fucked off. Players answers to these questions are meaningless unless they come out and say something very pointed like no I don’t want to be back here.

  9. Crazy how no good players want to stick around during a rebuild. Who could have seen this happening??

  10. I think he’s staying guys. English is second language and I take that as saying it’s hard because he doesn’t know since he hasn’t had any contract talks yet since he isn’t even eligible for an extension with us

  11. He should be trying to get it done. He shot over 17% this season he’s a prime regression candidate

  12. 1) Such a stupid question to already be asking when this season just ended yesterday and he isn’t even eligible for an extension yet.

    2) Negotiation wise he isn’t just going to come out and say he wants to stay here forever or else that will be used against him.

  13. The quote is much more ominous in written format. If you listen to the interview the vibe is very different

  14. I’d love to see him stay. It’d shorten the rebuild schedule.

If he decides to go, we’ll have rehabilitated his value significantly and we’ll get more for him than we gave.

  15. All this means fuck all lmao, we’ve seen guys say they love calgary and would love to play their whole career here just to walk in free agency… and we’ve also seen guys say non committal answers like this just to sign an extension early into the offseason 🤷‍♂️

  16. It’s always tough to say when you don’t know what is being offered. It’s easily a no if the flames offer way less than he’s willing to accept. Easily a yes if the terms are in line with what he wants. It’s that simple

  17. Can you blame him? This team has zero direction right now. This off season will be telling what Conroy is capable of. If they aren’t in playoffs I wouldn’t resign either going into my prime.

  18. I mean, I love Sharky but if things got real, trading him is not the end of the world. proceeds + Suniev is more than enough to have won the trade. Definitely taking the quote with a grain of salt. Plenty of big names that were swirling last summer and this trade deadline stayed and re-signed after similar quotes.

  19. He’s been great and took advantage of the opportunity he’s had here, but not sure why anyone in his situation would stay unless the flames drastically overpay him compared to other opportunities.
