Elliotte Friedman thinks Crosby will extend for two or three years at a $10.5M AAV. Also that Dubas wants to see Blomqvist play in the AHL playoffs before discussing a contract with Nedeljkovic (Thought #21)

  1. If Crosby is extended for 2 years that would mean he’s under contract for 3 yrs right and next year for 8.7?

  2. My gut feeling is if he goes into next season without a new extension then he’s going to retire in one year. No, he won’t test free agency and sign with Colorado.

If he extends it will be for 2 more years after the next season so he will be a Penguin through 2026-7 at which time he’ll complete his age 39 season. By then he should be the all time Pens assist leader and points leader and *maybe* all time goals leader (he needs 99 more to pass Lemieux).

I think he knows in his heart he won’t touch the Cup anymore but the competition fire in his heart still burns and getting those milestones will fuel him.

Then on his 40th birthday Aug 7 2027 he will be feted in his retirement ceremony.

  3. Crosby obviously deserves what he wants, but I’m a little surprised he wouldn’t do what Bergeron did taking a low AAV deal that allows the team to go out and spend on complementary pieces.
