  1. He would have broke that record halfway through last season If any of our receivers could catch a ball.

  2. All things considered, that’s not a bad list of QBs compared to a lot of other franchises. The majority of them made at least 1 Pro Bowl and contributed to some really successful teams or successful offenses.

    * Len Dawson is a Hall of Famer and is pretty self explanatory mostly. For his era he was arguably the best QB in pro football and made such a great tandem with Otis Taylor. His completion percentage and TD/INT ratio was among the best, if not the best of his era and the Chiefs threw the ball quite a lot for that era. 1-1 Super Bowl Record and a good amount of playoff appearances and playoff wins to his credit, beating The Purple People Eaters defense in the Super Bowl. Before Mahomes, Dawson had more than half of the Chiefs playoff wins in the franchise’s history (Dawson has 5 playoff wins, all other teams before Mahomes had 4 playoff wins).

    * I don’t think any of us felt like Trent Green was holding the offense back during those Dick Vermeil years with arguably the best offense in the league for a 4 year span. Green was an all around really good QB who wasn’t afraid to take those deep shots with players like Eddie Kennison and Dante Hall, and found Tony Gonzalez pretty often.

    * Bill Kenney threw for 4000 yards in a season during an era where it was very uncommon to throw for that kind of yardage, and he did it with middling teams. Not the best of course, but on better teams I could have seen him having success. He basically kept Todd Blackledge on the bench in the 80s because Kenney was just a better QB.

    * Alex Smith may not have been what the Chiefs needed at QB to get them over the hump, but he was a consistent presence at QB that gave the rest of a team a chance to have the success they did and establish a winning culture. And he did give us that big comeback against the Chargers in the 2016 season opener which was awesome, and a couple of notable wins against Tom Brady and the Patriots in the regular season. He also mentored Mahomes for that one year which I think was about as good as any QB situation could have gone when the team drafts your replacement, along with Smith and Mahomes becoming friends.

    * Mike Livingston came in for Len Dawson in 1969 when Dawson got hurt and did what he needed to do for the team to get wins and get into the playoffs on the way to winning the team’s first Super Bowl.

  3. Any long term fans care to share their thoughts (as they were back in the ‘80s) on Bill Kennedy? Was he viewed at the time as primed to repeat 1983 Pro Bowl form if only he could stay healthy, or did fans think he was a mid-tier QB that would never lead a team to the playoffs?

  4. He’s also 19 TDs away from the all time Chiefs record. He’s gonna put himself clear of Len Dawson, a hall of famer, halfway through his 7th season.

  5. Freaking wild that mahomes has been a chiefs QB for 1 year more than Alex yet has 11,000 yards more than him. Love Alex for bringing a winning culture to KC but good grief was that offense boring to watch.
