Posting a random Steeler every day until kickoff or I forget – Day 49: Larry Station

LB Larry Station (1986)

Larry Station was a standout linebacker at the University of Iowa. As Iowa’s all-time leader in career tackles with 492, he was a 3x All-Big Ten selection, First-Team All American in 1983, Consensus All-American in 1984 and Unanimous All-American in 1985. He is also the only player to have led the Hawkeyes in tackles in four seasons. In his final game with Iowa, Station suffered a back injury and was forced to leave early in the 1986 Rose Bowl against UCLA.

Station was then selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 11th round of the 1986 NFL Draft, but never was able to fully recover from his back injury. He played just one season in the NFL before being forced to retire. After leaving the NFL, he received a master’s degree in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis. He was inducted into the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.

  1. Damn the final game before getting drafted decided his entire career. That’s bad luck.
