  1. That was a great era of captains. Yzerman, Sakic, Messier, Bourque, Gretzky, Lindros, Linden….

  2. Obviously I’m biased and am going to say Steve Yzerman. However, I will give my rival credit and say Joe Sakic is a close second.

  3. In my 20s, worked at a resort in Scottsdale and Steve Yzerman & his family came. The nicest guy ever!

  4. 1st pick Steve
    2nd Joe

Grew up in colorado, but my mom’s from Detroit, and I always had love for the wings. Growing up, Steve was my favorite player

  5. Joe Sakic, Mark Messier, Steve Yzerman…. It’s a tough call but it’s definitely between these three for me

  6. Yzerman has the C on his banner hanging in the rafters for a reason. He’s THE captain

  7. Definitely not the best but I just want to mention the impact zdeno chara had in Boston. He turns the franchise around starting in the locker room

  8. Stevey Y for me. Favourite Stars Captain since move to Dallas was Brenden Morrow for sho

  9. Mario Lemieux.

I cite him based on how other players discussed his influence in that role. Particularly Gretzky and the other superstars on the Canadian Olympic team in 2002.

  10. The best thing about Yzerman is he completely changed his game for the benefit of the team

  11. I think Stevie Y winning that Cup with a bum knee puts him on top. I’ll never forget him taking shots and collapsing to a knee and then getting right the f back up.
