Where do you guys stand with AJ ?

We all know he had a fantastic rookie season for the most part but hit a wall towards the end of last & this season . Obviously wasn’t in the right head space to play this season yet alone be effective but how do you guys feel about him ? Would you mind him getting a healthy season mentality & physically or would you dangle him in trade talks as a package piece for the right price back ? I personally feel as if he has tons of potential on & off the ball but if we can get a defender back for him straight up or if he’s part of a bigger star package I’ll have no problem moving him especially with Kobe Buf in our pocket

  1. If we can get actual value back for him then fine do it. I have no expectations for him as a Hawk. But he is still younger than some guys getting drafted in the lottery this year, I wouldn’t be shocked if he actually has a good NBA career. I hope he can figure out the mental part.

  2. This past season was his year 2 right?

So many decent players go through a sophomore slump…. so if he commits to getting better then I see no reason as to why he couldn’t be a decent bench contributor.

We need some of these young cats to seriously commit to playing defense. I feel like if I was a baller in the league and I was streaky at best on offense then I would wholeheartedly commit myself to good defensive play.

  3. It’s hard for me to give him a proper assessment when he was glued to the bench the entire year after a pretty good rookie year. Yeah he didn’t play well in his SUPER limited playing time, but it’s hard to find a rhythm when you don’t even get opportunities.

  4. I think he’s more valuable as a hold than anything else we’ll get back for him.

Dude’s kid nephew died and his family has been caught up in litigation, I’m gonna chalk this season up to extenuating circumstances. Give him a summer off to get right and reset and then go from there

  5. His value is really low right now, so even if you don’t see him as a long term piece moving on from him would be selling low. If you think that he isn’t going to improve then move on, but otherwise you should keep him. I think that he still has a good basketball career ahead of him, so I’d keep him.

Also, assuming that one of DJ or Trae are moving this offseason, we could use the additional depth at guard. We’d have either Trae or DJ, Kobe, and Bogi locked in next season, so I wouldn’t mind spending a roster spot on AJ as a guard depth/developmental piece

  6. Still has high upside but it’s gonna be hard to fit him in with Bufkin, Krejci, and G Matthews if they all come back next season. I think it’s probably best the Hawks try to find him an opportunity elsewhere.

  7. It’s interesting how viewpoint on players changes so quickly on this sub. The sub almost never wants to move a prospect because they all have endless potential. I mean there was almost no trade you could have offered this fanbase(outside of obvious superstars) for AJ last year that they would have accepted and now some people want him gone for anything at all

  8. It’s hard to focus on basketball when your life is crumbling around you at no fault of your own…

And you believe the world is coming up on the end times.

Jokes aside, love the guy and hope he can get more opportunities and a clear headspace to turn it around.

  9. It is really hard to root for him due to his social media personality. I selfishly hope he is gone so I don’t have to think about him, but hope he is successful if he stays
