I’ve been watching old jets videos to get hyped for the playoffs today. Here’s Winnipeg drafting Scheifele in their first NHL draft as jets 2.0.

I don’t pay too much attention to the Flyers but are Couturier’s numbers due to him playing on the Flyers? 2 less games played and 219 less points than Shuffles.
Seeing the Jets top 5 prospects on the bottom of the screen. 💀

I loved that moment when Chipman revealed the worst kept secret, and officially named the team the Jets
I will never forget where I was when this pick was made. This was also my “draft year” and it was Winnipeg 2.0 first pick. I was washing dishes in Transcona, we had the draft audio on the radio and the entire staff was huddled around the speaker. As soon as they said “Winnipeg Jets” we lost it. Then they picked Scheifele. I remember thinking, Mark who?
I’ve been all in on Scheifele ever since. I got a jersey that year and he’s been my Favourite Jet ever since.
Hard to believe Armia went ahead of Scheifele.
Crazy that the two highest rated prospects on the board were Hamilton and Couturier, both of whom are All-Star calibre players, but the Jets went off the board and took Scheifele who turned out to be better than both of them.
At the time, I remember wondering who the hell Scheifele was. Now, I’m wondering how strong the margarita was that Bob Mackenzie was drinking when he ranked all those “top prospects” left on the board ahead of him.
