  2. Love seeing Slaf, Laf, and Byfield on there. Gives much needed reassurance to fans that you just have to be patient sometimes.

  3. You sorted on goals for? Hardly the best metric to use. You could at least use Goals for/60, or go further and use goals% or xG%. They’ve definitely been a great line this year, but I wouldn’t classify them as one of the best in the league

  4. While GF isn’t the best metric, that’s good company to be in (McDavid, MacKinnon, and co.)

  5. it’s the third line with the most minute played, it’d be pretty sad if they wern’t in the top 10

  6. Using the same parameters, the line is:

    48th in xG%

    43rd in G%

    26th in GF/60

    34th in xGF/60

What this tells us is the Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield line is definitely a 1st line in the NHL right now, but far from elite yet. Expect those numbers to go up as the players get more experience though.

Another interesting thing is they’re great at finishing their plays. They’re better at actual goals than they are at expected goals, meaning they defy the odds when you take into account where and how those scoring chance take place. A great quality to have. Will that portion regress? Hard to tell, because Suzuki had an amazing goal scoring year while Caufield went through a rough year, as you can see through their shooting percentages:

    Suzuki: 17,8%

    Slaf: 13,2%

    Caufield: 8,9%

Anyway, I’m very much excited to see how they fare next year!
