Posting a random Steeler every day until kickoff or I forget – Day 51: Oliver Gibson

DT Oliver Gibson (1995-1998)

Oliver Gibson was selected in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Steelers out of Notre Dame. Gibson, a former USA Today High School Football Defensive Player of the Year, played defensive tackle, defensive end, and nose tackle positions during his four seasons with Pittsburgh. He played in 60 games, racking up 42 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

After leaving Pittsburgh, Gibson spent five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before retiring from football. After retirement, he got into broadcasting and coaching high school football. He has said that despite playing for the Bengals longer and having more individual success with them, he still only follows the Steelers and has fond memories of playing in Pittsburgh under John Mitchell and Dick LeBeau.

In a 2011 interview with the Steelers, he said, “I miss the Pittsburgh organization, the people, the players and the staff. Everyone was a great genuine person. That is what you miss. You feel like a family here.”
