Offense does nothing but the loss is all on Greene?

I get that he gave up more runs than anyone wanted but how can they honestly use this title when the offense doesn't put any runs up in support? Thankfully the article at least acknowledged that he went deep in the game like we needed. Sigh, did I just fall for rage bait?

  1. Offense was definitely the bigger issue. Hopefully the boys can pull off a .500 or better May. Hunter is generally hurt by defense too. I definitely think he gets too much blame. I also really hope he puts together a better developed 3rd pitch.

  2. It should be noted that many big leaguers will tell you if the offense is on fire it has an intimidation effect (affect?). Greene didn’t have a great outing but if the Reds had put some runs on the board early in the game I doubt The Phillies would have had some much production.

  3. I think Greene gets a lot of unwarranted hate, but I also think it’s valid to say he’s got to develop a third pitch at some point to be a long-term starter in the league.

The worst part about Greene’s starts (even going back to last season) is he rarely ever gets any run support. For some reason, he’s one of those pitchers who just seem to take the field when the offense is at its worst. He didn’t have an amazing night, but even if he held the Phillies to 2 runs through 7 (which anyone would be happy to see) it wouldn’t have been enough for a W.

It would be nice to see him get the kind of run support Ashcraft usually gets.
