To me this is sort of an evaluation year for trevor and we want to mitigate potential legitimate excuses so paying him top market rates isn’t a nagging question. That’s why I’d take JC Latham with our first pick because I think he projects as a stout guard at the next level and our interior is either ageing or bad. Latham can either play on the left right away or we can move scherff to the left side, but I don’t think ezra cleveland neede to be starting. With the second we fill a niche at receiver this team doesn’t really have right now, a RB, yac, get him the ball quickly and in space archetype that should alleviate some of the woes of our passing game. If McCormick is there in the 4th I think you need to take him to be the centre of the future because the unfortunate truth is that Mitch is another concussion away from retirement. I take two swings at corner here- I really like Khyree Jackson as a zone corner- and it sucks to punt on a team need with our first two picks but we need to focus on building the offence around Trevor first.
Whether it’s Latham, Mims, Fautanu, or Fashanu, just please draft OL round 1.
Trevor needs time. Pocket presence is probably his biggest weakness at the moment, so OL play is even more important for him than most QB’s. People are saying the don’t want to draft a backup in round 1 but Scherff is gone after this year and if we’re going to draft a replacement the time is now, not next year. Not to mention the inevitable OL injuries where he’s going to fill in.
