Joe Mazzulla’s take on the Caleb Martin foul: “I don’t think it was intentional… it’s obviously something that everybody can latch on to for two days, but I didn’t think it was really that intentional. It is what it is.”

  1. It’s hard to say it was intentional after watching the overhead angle of what happened. Maybe it could have been avoided but with Jrue’s shove, it’s hard to say.

But people over in r/nba act like Celtics fans are a bunch of over-reactors, as opposed to the fact that the Heat are a team that seldom deserves the benefit of the doubt in these situations.

  2. It took me a day or two, but now that the emotions are settled, I think that Mazzulla is right.

  3. It’s not intentional, but it’s reckless which is the way Miami play basketball.

  4. I think it was intentional — he sprints from the top of the key and jumps into Tatum — and in no way does that look like a typical basketball play. I think he should have been suspended.

Was it premeditated? No way to know. I just know that it was reckless and dirty and I’ve seen guys miss games for less. NBA needs to get on top of this before one of their marquee players gets injured. We narrowly missed that this time around.

BTW, love that the team is relishing it and embracing it.

  5. It was intentional, but the team downplaying it is the right move. Tatum’s reaction was perfect and sent as strong a message as possible. (As much as I want someone to take a shot at Martin.)

Dude woulda scored 20 in 5 minutes if there was time left, that was the maddest I’ve ever seen Tatum, and angry Tatum is unstoppable.

Looking for that energy to carry into game 2.

  6. r/nba right after the play: OMG MARTIN IS DIRTY AF WOWWWWWW

r/nba after the new camera angle: LMAO CELTICS FANS THINK EVERYONE IS DIRTY
