Malachi Corley joins ‘NFL Total Access’ days before draft

Mal Corley here on NFL Total Access
Steve Smith Senor Malachi called you the
steel of the draft as more people
appreciate your game what’s it like to
hear our praise from some of the greats
to ever play the game uh it’s amazing
and it’s a real feeling especially
coming from smalltown Kentucky High
School football and then even playing
small town college football at Western
Kentucky um it feels amazing to have
people who are Hall of Famers who are
great players who I’ve modeled my game
after who uh have appreciation for my
game that’s something special and you
mentioned uh Bowling Green you’ve gone a
lot of places emanating from that 10
top 30 visits what are those
conversations like and does it does it
get a little
repetitive uh it does get a little
repetitive at times um but it’s
something to be grateful for something
to be appreciative for especially from
somewhere I came from uh like like I
said I went to 10,000 people in my town
250 kids in my school for so for me to
be meeting you know head coaches and GMS
um people are in highly regarded
positions in the NFL for my dream to
truly becoming true um it’s an amazing
feeling and being in those conversations
and being able to speak my truth and
hear people recognize my talents at the
same time it’s amazing and Mal you
mentioned the small talent and I can’t
help but think about uh the the
exceeding statistical success you had
the year before last there were probably
a few people calling asking you to go in
the portal what kept you in Bowling
Green that year uh ultimately it was my
relationship with the people of Bowling
Green the town the community uh my staff
people that believed in me from the time
that I got there I was at Western for
four years uh my strength coach my
receiver coach were guys that were there
the entire time with me and were
interested in my growth more more so as
a a man and a human being rather than
just a player so uh that’s somewhere
that I felt like I had enough support
and love and being able to have my high
school team and my family be able to
come to every single game uh that was a
very instrumental piece of me staying at
West Kentucky it was very important to
me to have that um camaraderie and that
family around me um while I’m still
getting to play the game that I love so
very important to have that support in
community around me and during your time
they’re playing for the hill Toppers of
course getting the moniker the yak King
you told Mike Keith down in Mobile you
were planning to get the yak King chain
uh for the draft can update me on the
chain and what’s your mentality when
you’re out there with the ball in your
hands uh the king chain that’s still on
that’s on standby we ain’t goingon to
get that yet we’re gonna wait a little
bit longer for that one uh but my
mentality on the field is just when I
get the ball to make some magic happen
with it um I’ve worked my life my entire
life’s work is built around football
having the ball in my hands um ever
since I was younger I’ve always been the
best player on my team and I know that
um as long as I play the game My coaches
have always told me you know our best
players got to make plays for us to win
um and they always told me that I’m our
best player so every time I get the ball
in my hands I feel like it’s an
opportunity for me to Showcase my
god-given talent and also the
hardworking uh Dedication that I put to
the game so that’s why I’m out there
running dudes over Trucking over guys
you know it’s just my passion for the
game that gets me to that point uh I
really love the game and I love the
process and everything that goes into it
uh so going out there on Saturdays made
it real easy for me and we’ll get a
chance uh this time next week you’ll not
just have the ball in your you’ll have a
hat and a jersey as well where are you
taking in the draft and what are your
plans uh so I’ll being in Campville
Kentucky um you know some things can be
a moment or they can be a movement and
for me being the first person to sign a
division one letter intent from my high
school I think it was important for me
to have a community event you know have
some Inflatables out there get to see
the young kids in the district um all be
able to come out there and see what
someone from their Hometown and their
position that they want to be in is done
um so I think it’s more so instrumental
uh to have that uh Community event ra
rather than just being for myself so uh
definitely going to be like a Citywide
event hopefully I can get as many kids
as I can there be able to lift up those
guys show them what it’ll be like uh if
they just dedicate a little bit of their
lives to us and they’ll be able to watch
you have what I’m sure is going to be
very very much uh success here at the
next level can’t wait to see it Maliki
thanks for joining us here on Total
Access absolutely thank you for having
me I appreciate it
