Podziemski leads warriors plus minus this season

Ive read several comments about Podz being a net liability and isn’t a skilled enough player to have warranted so many minutes this season. I was shocked to hear that he lead plus/minus this season. He isn’t perfect but for a rookie to lead +/- a team over a whole season seems to indicate he was unquestionably an asset.

So I ask Podz’ shaders: what am I missing? Why such sharp criticism?

  1. He played phenomenal for a rookie. Needs to work on finishing at the rim and not over-help defensively.

Honestly the hate came from people trying to pinpoint why we were losing or angry klay/moody stans that he was starting over them

  3. People will point to his bad POA defense and lack of scoring which really pop out when you see him play.

I thought he did fine and I like Podz, but maybe this is a case where the box score shows his impact where the eye test doesn’t.

  4. I disagree with those saying he’s a low ceiling high floor player, imo he is extremely comfortable taking difficult 3s which is incredibly valuable, he just needs to take more of the open ones. Additionally his passing is extremely good. Yes he struggled to finish around the rim but i think that’s to be expected for a rookie and I was impressed with how he was able to get to the rim especially on the team we have with often crowded lanes. Only problem with him is with him and Steph or Klay on the floor our POA defense is weak, but he’s still a valuable player with more upside than people give him credit for. There’s a bunch of weird podz haters on here, I don’t get it lol

  5. Steph used to always have that crown. Not anymore. More evidence of why he’s not good enough to be the best player on a title team that doesn’t have a stacked roster.

  6. He played with the bench when they were good and played with the starters when they were good, he’s also pretty good

  7. Just proof that +/- is flawed. I don’t think anyone would say Podz was the most impactful or important player on the team this season. He had a solid rookie campaign but on a title contender he would barely get minutes.

  8. His rebounding and assist numbers were meaningful … the plus minus was the canary in the coal mine and a bad sign. He shouldn’t have been leading the team in plus minus, just like he shouldn’t have been shooting in clutch time with few exceptions. His minutes should have been reduced which tells you everything about that + -. There were rarely situations where anyone thought “Damn, put Podz in, he can save us”.

  9. Also was the best offensive engine in college basketball at Santa Clara… mentored by Steph CP3 Steve Nash as a top tier feel / bbiq player.

If people think he’s a liability when he ALWAYS makes the team better. They just don’t know hoops.

That was his 20 yr old ROOKIE season.

He’s actually gonna get alot better.
