Playoff Performances Thus Far and Where To Improve

I take an overall look at the Jets performance over two games using the numbers and also my observations from tracking the team’s zone entries, zone exits, retrievals, recoveries, entry denials, and forechecking.

As always, any thoughts or questions are appreciated. Also, feel free to send me questions for the mailbag.

  1. For much of the last game we were sprinting into their zone and they quickly cleared and we’d repeat one or two more times then we were tired and the Mack, Rant, Mak line had their way with us in our zone for sustained amounts of time. Colorado has switched to more of a trap style where they clog up the neutral zone and force us to dump and chase where their D is now playing deeper and getting to pucks first for easy clears. Jets meanwhile are overextending on the forecheck and the Avs more skilled first line is cutting through the neutral zone at will. Our gaps are too big and we looked to be chasing the puck a lot without much puck retrieval success. Avs have clearly adjusted their game to better match our strengths so the Jets will need to counter.
