Surely even Celtics fans can’t be that delusional

I know it’s from a biased source but that has got to be one of the dumbest takes Paul Pierce has ever made. Tatum in the Playoffs, 0/1 in the finals averaging 21,7 and 7 over 6 games vs Kawhi 20,9 and 2 over 18 games going 2/3 in the finals. If we’re comparing Kawhi’s title with us he averaged 28, 10 and 4 over the same amount of games against an even better and younger Warriors team.

  1. I dunno. Celtics fans tune into every game with the reasonable expectation that Tatum will be on the court. Kawhi just can’t be counted on.

  2. I mean… if we’re talking all time, of course Kawhi is better – but at this stage of their careers it’s Tatum no competition

  3. Enh, if you’re talking offence only Tatum is an incredibly gifted scorer. I think PEAK, healthy Kawhi is better but if you’re talking average performance over all playoffs frankly, you can make an argument for Tatum if only considering scoring

  4. There’s no better basketball player then the man who set foot on that court against Philadelphia that series.

You simply cannot perform at a higher level than that. It’s among the very best superstar performances ever.

Kawhi’s run is pretty hard to beat. Winning all your series, becoming finals MVP, the performance against the Sixers where he had a few 40s and completely carried us and capping it off with the shot, then us being able to beat the Bucks and Warriors after that?

Championship runs like that are improbable. This team had a lot of demons, and he got us the ring.

Tatum is a superstar, franchise guy for sure, but he has not arisen to that status where you put the cap on it like Kawhi has done several times. However, he has a ton of time to go and likely has greatness in front of him.

  5. If this is based off of today, which I assume it is, then he’s correct. Tatum is a machine on offence. Gifted from everywhere and his size is very difficult to compete with

All time? Kawhi ofc. But over the last 3 seasons? Give me Tatum

  6. Pierce and Arenas are two formers who you just gotta let say what they say. There is no debating it, just give them their validation cookie and move on

  7. tatum is literally the perfect franchise player elite on and off ball and plays defence. the hype is warranted but prime kawhi an insane talent himself.

  8. Not at this stage. If Kawhi was in his prime then it’d be a wild take, but at this current point in time offensively Tatum is better I’m sure that’s what Paul Pierce meant. Fans like to compare the prime version of players against each other when statements like this are said.

  9. Prime Leonard is not just better than Prime Tatum, he’s better than Prime Kobe

Best 2/3 since MJ not named LeBron

  10. Well, I mean their respective number of Championships is right on their chest.

  11. He did say offensively though and you included their winning/success rate in the playoffs which has nothing to do with the conversation. Offensive is just scoring. Which Tatum is currently leading with 1 more point per game. But I couldn’t care less about the offensive side. Kawhi is dominant because of his defense and he’s also extremely efficient on the offensive end though not necessarily a prolific scorer.

So from that standpoint I have no issue with what Pierce said.

  12. Apparently 99% of this thread can’t read that Pierce (who I can’t stand) is only talking about offense, lol. At this stage Tatum is definitely better than Kawhi on that end.

  13. Are they saying right now? Or over their careers? Much different with that context otherwise we’re just talking over each other about different things.

  14. Tatum has “0” Championships OR Finals MVP’s = nice try #StopIt You’re embarrassing Tatum posting this foolishness

  15. I mean I would agree at this point. Kawhai is 32 years old and has major knee issues. It does feel like his decline has started this year. Clips still a better team though.

  16. Not all time but Tatum is certainly better right now. Kawhi was struggling to score on solo Luka last night (yes injuries are a factor, but he’s always injured now so have to see it as a constant)
