“General manager George Paton said the Broncos “have to hit on” their first pick in the NFL draft. It would be a good idea to hit on most of their picks.

After missing the playoffs for eight straight seasons, including seven with a losing record, the Broncos head into one of their most important drafts ever in the Thursday through Saturday event in Detroit.

There has been plenty of grumbling lately by fans. The 2022 trade for quarterback Russell Wilson didn’t work out and he was released last month. Other top players gone from the 8-9 season in 2023 are safety Justin Simmons, who was released, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, who was traded, and center Lloyd Cushenberry and linebacker Josey Jewell, who left as free agents. Against the backdrop of those departures, Denver didn’t exactly hit it big in free agency.

Now, the Broncos have a chance to turn things around. They have eight picks in the draft, including the No. 12 selection in the first round. It’s the first time they’ve had a first-round selection since 2021.”
