[Breer] Lions’ 4-year extension with Penei Sewell runs thru ‘29. Detroit picked up 5th-year option this AM, making this a 6-year deal. ~$63M over 1st 3 years. Was due just ~$23M over next 2, so $40M for 1st new year. $87M over first 4 years. Rolling guarantee structure.

  1. All I needed to hear is Sewell will be a Lion until at least 2029 and I’m happy. Hopefully he ends up a lifer here

  2. We are gonna compete for a long time I’m so excited, these lions are superstars.

  3. The contract would be justifiable even if it started this season, but the fact that it doesn’t kick in for another 2 years makes it even better. The cap will probably be around 300mil by then

  4. Locking up a future HOF’er long term is an easy decision

The way Brad/Dan and the rest of the brain trust have flipped this roster in only a few years is really something special.

  5. What I like about these two that got resigned is I’m not worried that they are going to fall off after inking that second contract.

Amon Ra and Penei are hungry and are going to set what the standard of a Lions player should be.

Brad showing he is going to pay those who worked for it anddeserve it while letting those who don’t fit walk.

  6. I used to be so jealous of teams with competent and decisive management. Couldn’t envision a future where the Lions had exactly that. Unreal the change.

  7. I promise by 2027-28 we are all gonna be absolutely loving this deal even more. He’s a stud so don’t care about him being the highest paid rn, but in a couple seasons he won’t be and it’ll look like a steal!

  8. Pretty sure Sewell is the best Lion on the team right now, this contract is SUPER reasonable imo.

  9. Was this choreographed? Because brad just set the market the day before the draft… are GMs now having to change up their strategy a bit? Because these are the small things that GMs have to keep in mind when drafting like vikings potentially drafting a QB

  10. I’ll say this he’s going to be in Canton. That’s not a hot take but I personally believe he’s gonna be the best tackle ever. I never seen a tackle like him (albeit I’ve been watching the lions since 2009.) not only on the lions but in the league. Better than Joe Thomas.
