  1. I remember the draft debate in 1993 was between Bledsoe and Notre Dame QB Rick Mirer, who went 1-2 as expected. Bledsoe was the Drake Maye type while Mirer was more like JJ McCarthy. Mirer started right away for the Seahawks and did pretty well his first year, but couldn’t improve on it and was eventually traded. Meanwhile Bledsoe and bridge QB Scott Secules lost most of their games the first season, until the Pats caught fire, winning their last four in a row.

The Bledsoe years before the dynasty were an exciting time for the team, particularly part 1 under Parcells, which turned into a four-year ascent to the SB. Then Parcells decided he’d had enough of Bob Kraft, and decamped to the NYJ. Part 2 of Bledsoe, under Pete Carroll, was good but not great. Parcells took several of his best assistants to the NYJ; then Kraft lowballed Curtis Martin on his contract extension, so Parcells stole him too.

  2. I grew up in Washington State through most of my youth. Bledsoe was so good for the Cougs. And as a Pats fan even back then, I knew he’d be a stud and he was. Take Maye tomorrow.
