In the entire Statcast era there have been 76 balls hit into play with an exit velo of 109MPH-110MPH at a launch angle of 31 degrees. 73 of those were HRs, while just 3 were flyouts, including one last night by Vlad.

  1. I’m so sure he’s going to break out, but man I wish he’d do it already. Hopefully the warm summer air gets him those extra few feet on balls.

  2. He hit it to the deepest part of the park in a deep park on a night where the ball wasn’t carrying well.

Change your search to straightway and it becomes 2 flyouts and 22 HRs, still rare, just not as rare. The other Flyout was basically the same thing, hit to the deepest part of the park in Texas

  3. His at bats have looked so bad recently that I have a weird feeling he’s about to break out massively. That feeling could be delusion tho

  4. There was a theory last season when he hit balls on average 30ish (may have been 50ish) feet shorter than the launch angle and exit velocity indicate the ball should go because of where he hits the ball off the bat it creates back spin and kills the ball in the air so he hits warning track flies that if he didn’t create that backspin would be home runs more consistently.

Was something like 22 balls he hit last year that should have been home runs but because of the loss of distance they turned into fly outs.
