  1. Oh no. This is very sad news for me; he was my favorite hockey voice outside of John and Chuck. Rest in Peace, Bob.

  2. I’ll repost what I said over on the r/hockey thread about his passing: I was living in Michigan at the time of the 2006 win so I had the option of watching either the US or Canadian broadcast of the finals. I usually ended up watching the CBC broadcast, so Cole’s calls, not Emrick’s, are the ones I remember. His complimenting the fans for the fact that they stood for pretty much the entirety of Game 7 as something he’d never seen before as well as saying “What a night for hockey in the South” after they won felt like a tip of the cap of respect and acknowledging that hockey could work here after all.

  3. I remember his call at the end of Game 7 back in 2006:

“They wanted to be called ‘hockey people’ – now, you got to take them serious, folks…they don’t have any problem with not finding a seat, they don’t want to sit down! They’re all standing!…We salute the Stanley Cup champions from Carolina! The Hurricanes have done it.”

    RIP
