Daily Minors Quick-Notes 4/24/24 – Bryce Eldridge is back!


Yes, Bryce Eldridge finally made his return to the lineup, though he didn’t get any hits. That’s about the only reason to look at the San Jose box score though. Elsewhere, Trenton Brooks led Sacramento, while Marco Luciano picked up his first home run of the season.

Player of the Game: DH Trenton Brooks: 1-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 HR (1), 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SB (3)

The corner infielder has had a bit of an average season (his .262 batting average is the same as his career minor league average), but he had a great game getting on base, and now has nine walks to ten strikeouts in 20 games. Last season, he had 78 walks to 77 strikeouts in 118 games.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • 1B David Villar: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 HR (3) – The former PCL MVP is having another good year, now hitting .280 with seven doubles and three home runs.
  • SS Marco Luciano: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 HR (1), 1 K – Luciano got his first home run of the season. He’s hitting .300 with six doubles as well, and his Slugging (.413) finally is higher than his OBP (.412).
  • RP Kai-Wei Teng: 1.1 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 K – It was not a good return to Triple-A for Teng in his first Sacramento appearance. He had a 10.13 ERA in 8.0 innings in the bigs.

This was Howell’s first 3-hit game to the season, and he’s 9-for-19 (.474) over his last five games. His average is up to .267.

  • 3B Luis Toribio: 1-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 HR (1), 2 K, 1 E (1) – This was Toribio’s first home run this season, in his 10th game.

This was Wynja’s first shutout game of the season, lowering his season ERA to 4.50 after four starts, and his first going at least 5.0 innings.

  • LF Tanner O’Tremba: 2-4, 1 R, 1 3B (1), 1 K – The triple was O’Tremba’s second extra-base hit of the year, along with one home runs in 10 games. He’s batting .241 but with a .405 OBP and .414 SLG.
  • DH Quinn McDaniel: 0-2, 3 BB – McDaniel now has 12 walks to 16 strikeouts in 14 games, good for a .453 OBP above a .333 batting average.

San Jose managed just three singles in this game, but Cox continues to show some interesting offensive ability, picking up his ninth steal in 14 games.

  • 1B Guillermo Williamson: 1-3, 1 BB, 2 K – Williamson is just 5-for-35 (.143) on the season.
