It’s wild to think the Canucks are the only playoff team with radio broadcasts being called from a studio in their home city.

  1. Rogers is such a cheap ass company. Bell really isn’t that much better but sucks that Aquaman isn’t footing the bill in this case.

We can hate him for a lot of things but spending money on the team has never, ever been an issue with him which is why I’m surprised he’s not willing to do this

  2. They never really mention that on radio afaik. But I kinda thought this was going on.

TBH I’m surprised more places weren’t doing this after Covid. Covid sports calls weren’t perfect by any means, but they were good ENOUGH that most people wouldn’t notice or care. Take Batch/whoever off the road, that’s a bunch less flying a bunch less hotel rooms and meals and transportation to pay for. That’s gotta be $200,000 a year saved based on the costs of hotels these days.

Not only that but it allows for multiple characters. Locally we’ve had Randip, Riccio and Festerling all do colour. A lot harder to organize that if it’s on the road.

That’s not to say I’m advocating for it. I’m fucking sick and tired of businesses just cutting costs down to the lowest common denominator. But I’m surprised it’s not happening more and even MORE surprised that it’s a Canadian market being the only one doing it.

  3. This is lame. You can’t properly call a game by watching a monitor. You can’t see the stuff that happens just outside of camera view behind the play. It’s bush league.

  4. Canadian media companies – working to make more money with less product. There’s a joke that comes to mind and I’ll customise it for this post.

Rogers – we’re not happy until you’re not happy.

  5. I honestly don’t mind it. When I’m listening to radio I just want clear, concise calls because I am focused primarily on driving.

  6. I don’t understand why they have 2 play by play broadcast, back in the old days Jim Robson and I’m sure Jim Hughson (I can’t remember) as well did both TV and Radio
