Xavier Worthy Drop Rates by Year (PFF): 2021 – 4.6%, 2022 – 10.6%, 2023 – 6.3%. Notably, Worthy played half of 2022 with a broken hand.

Just posting this because the "Worthy has bad hands" narrative is too pervasive. He has not shown that yet and shows pretty natural hands in college. You can see that in this compilation of touchdowns from his collegiate career.

Here are also some names with higher than 6.3% drop rates in the NFL:

  • Puka Nacua – 10.2%
  • Jaylen Waddle – 8.6%
  • Calvin Ridley – 8.4%
  • DK Metcalf – 8.3%
  • Mike Evans – 8.2%
  • Davante Adams – 8%

He has issues in his profile like his size and beating press/man but hands is not really an issue. I would say Troy Franklin has less natural hands, for reference.

  1. I dont know where the stats are from. Im seeing different figures for the guys youve mentioned here:

    https://www.fantasylife.com/tools/advanced-receiving

    Puka Nacua – 10.2%
    Jaylen Waddle – 3%
    Calvin Ridley – 4%
    DK Metcalf – 4%
    Mike Evans – 5%
    Davante Adams – 4%

Even if these stats are less accurate than your source, what it shows is that it might be meaningless to compare this stat from diff sources.

  2. Looking at highlights, I’m impressed how well he adjusts to balls down the field. That was something our speedy guys simply could not do well last year. Pat had to drop it directly in their hands to get a catch

  3. His contested catch rate is abysmal, like 5 of 22 in 2023 or something along those lines.

I’m not worried if he can catch wide open body catch opportunities.

I’m worried about how he’ll look when a corner in the NFL is able to get hands on him and force him to make a tough catch.

  4. That is slightly misleading though those guys didn’t have drop rates that high in college and it’s not so much that Worthy has bad hands as it is the others have better hands this class is loaded with people that don’t drop the football

Worth noting though is Skyy Moore had the lowest drop pect in his draft class he didn’t drop anything so that’s just evidence that college drop rates can be very misleading
