Michael Busch’s hot start is (probably) not a mirage – he’s killing it

  1. Busch has done so well that it’s easy to see him taking up Rizzo’s place as THE 1B, but we’ve been burned before – Bryan LaHair…

    But the underlying stats indicate that Busch is destroying the ball. There will almost definitely be some adjustments, looks like he’s getting a whole lot of 4 seamers right now and feasting off them, but the results are legit.

    So far, it’s looking like a great trade.

  2. He’s looked good so far but some reasons to remain a bit cautious: can’t hit lefties so not an everyday starter, awful K and whiff rate, small sample size. All it takes is one bad week to make that graph look a lot less impressive

  3. He’s a terrible first baseman, though. He can’t make the tough plays that Tony would make look routine.

  4. The swing and miss is very concerning. There is a limit to how good you can be if you strike out 30% of the time. That has to improve.
