DeWayne Carter asked Beane, “What took you so long to call?”

Buffalo News: Bills add Duke DT DeWayne Carter in third round of NFL draft

Carter is older than the Bills’ first two draft picks. He doesn’t lack for confidence, either.

“He is mature – mature beyond his years,” Beane said. “Being around him through the process, this spring. … He politely asked me what took us so long to call him. He did it in a nice way. I said we were just waiting for the right moment.”

When it finally came, the relief was real.

“You get a little bit down in the dumps and I kept on looking at Buffalo, like, ‘They’re going to come and get me, they’re going to come and get me.’ I kind of laid back on the couch and felt the couch vibrate and I think my exact words were, ‘Oh my God. It’s really happening.’ I have a great support system around me.”

  1. it’s really cool that buffalo continues to go after guys that want to be there. this team is gonna be special next year

  2. Everything I’ve seen of this dude I have loved so far. Go watch his pressers and initial interviews from the past 24 hours. The guy absolutely oozes leadership and charisma.

  3. It’s funny because he expected this call from us and I didn’t even know who tf he was lmao

Edit: I’m not hating😂 truly just had no clue who he was prior to the pick

  4. It’s so nice to have the kind of team, system, and culture that people *want* to join the Bills again. Beane & Co have been amazing for this franchise.

  5. As a Giants and Duke fan I’m insanely jealous about the Carter pick. I don’t know if you guys understand yet just how fucking good the guh actually is. Watch his highlights or how he did at the senior bowl, he’s one of the strongest people in the draft straight up. The two years before this one he had Chris Jones-like college numbers. And the only reason his numbers were down this year was because he was targeted and often double teamed by the offensive lines.

  6. A lot of talk about culture and Beane building a high character team, but let’s be clear this team’s culture is Josh Allen. These guys want to be here because we have a badass under center that can win Superbowls.
