[Passan] MLB to modify uniforms after player complaints, per memo

  1. > “This has been entirely a Nike issue,” the memo to players said. “At its core, what has happened here is that Nike was innovating something that didn’t need to be innovated.”

    > “We cautioned Nike against various changes when they previewed them in 2022, particularly regarding pants,” the union memo said. “MLB had been, and has been, aware of our concerns as well. Unfortunately, until recently Nike’s position has essentially boiled down to — ‘nothing to see here, Players will need to adjust.’ “

  2. >The changes, which will happen at the latest by the beginning of the 2025 season, will also include fixes to the pants, widely panned this spring for being see-through.

    Hahahahahahahahahaha

  3. Weren’t they trying to gaslight everyone about the jerseys not being different? This is hilarious

  4. “Nike was innovating something that didn’t need to be innovated.”

Ya sounds like every company doing something “for change just for the sake of change”

    Stop messing with shit

  6. > MLB declined comment. Nike did not offer immediate comment when reached by ESPN. Fanatics did not respond to a request for comment. The MLBPA declined comment.

    Lmao.

  7. >**The most prominent modifications include a return to larger lettering on the back of jerseys**, remedying mismatched grey tops and bottoms, and addressing the new Nike jersey’s propensity to collect sweat, according to the memo distributed to players by the MLB Players Association on Sunday.

Thank fuck. I honestly found that worse than the see-through material. What’s the point of having names on the back if they’re too small to read?

  8. Didn’t expect this to happen but I’m pleasantly surprised.

    The smaller nameplates were hideous.

  9. Still not absolving Fanatics for anything because their products are still shit on the website.

  10. Interested to see what Nike has to say, if anything. The argument made against fanatics made a lot of sense if I’m remembering right

  11. Wow. Only a month too late.

     >The changes, which will happen at the latest by the beginning of the 2025 season

FTFY The changes, which will happen ~~at the latest~~ by the beginning of the 2025 season

    At the earliest, I’m sure

  12. Pathetic attempt at shifting all the blame on Nike. All the parties involved are responsible. Thankfully the fans and players still care about the sport or they’d be getting away with this.

  13. Hoping these fixes include more than just making the letters bigger. They need to fix the awful kerning on some teams, move the batterman back where it belongs, and expand the placket.

  14. Dumping it all on Nike is funny because I’m quite sure Nike didn’t specify that every single unit ship with crooked stitching and puckering

  15. > The union also absolved Fanatics, the manufacturer of the uniform that has received the majority of public scorn for the uniform mess, saying the company “recognizes the vital importance of soliciting Player feedback, obtaining Player buy-in and not being afraid to have difficult conversations about jerseys or trading cards. Our hope is that, moving forward, Nike will take a similar approach.”

This is one of those situations where I don’t care if fanatics has been absolved of blame.

They’re a terrible, monopolistic company that I cannot wait to see fail. Their fan merchandise and customer service has been shit for as long as I can remember. I have never had a good experience with them.

  16. Okay so changes won’t be made until 2025… are we going to let teams wear last years uni’s or is that still not allowed.

  17. Thank god. These things are terrible.

    >The changes, which will happen at the latest by the beginning of the 2025 season

But we might be stuck looking at them the rest of this season…

  18. The fact that it took them THIS long to admit the problem is almost as embarrassing as the shitty uniforms themselves. Good riddance.

  19. They can point fingers at Nike but MLB itself and Fanatics took a huge hit in reputation from this whole fiasco, they denied anything was wrong until they had to admit it

  20. The most annoying thing is , if you ever hear Michael Rubin talk about Fanatics … it sounds like a good idea. I think it was Linsanity and Adidas not able to pump out his jerseys quick enough to capitalize on the hype that created this. Fanatics woulda had 250,000 Lin jerseys terribly made after his breakout game.
