Daily Minors Quick-Notes 4/28 – Pitching Dominates on Sunday


It was a great day for pitching, especially if you were named Carson, as Carson Whisenhunt and Carson Ragsdale both had shutout outings…and their games weren’t even the best pitching performances overall, as San Jose flirted with the organization’s second no-hit bid of the season! Too bad about the offense today, though…

Player of the Game: Carson Whisenhunt: 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K

Carson Whisenhunt broke a string of poor performances earlier this week, but followed it up with another strong one. The 5.0 innings were a season-high, and the one hit allowed ties a season-low allowed. His ERA is down to 6.52, and now has 29 strikeouts to 13 walks in 19.1 innings.

  • 1B Trenton Brooks: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 2B (3) 2 K – Brooks had the team’s only extra-base hit on a rough offensive day. He’s got three doubles and one home run in 22 games.

Player of the Game: Carson Ragsdale: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K

Ragsdale had his best start of the season, his first not allowing any runs or walks. His ERA is down to 2.42 and has 27 strikeouts to 13 walks in 22.1 innings this season through five starts.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • LF Carter Howell: 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 SB (1) – Howell has hits in 7 of his last 8 games, going 12-for-28 (.429) with four doubles and one triple.
  • RP Reggie Crawford: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR – For the second appearance in a row, Crawford gave up a lead-surrendering home run. After four appearances, 5.0 innings, he has a 3.60 ERA.

Velasquez has hits in nine of his last ten games, and has gotten on base in each of his 17 games. He’s hitting .309 with a .407 on-base percentage

Player of the Game: SP Dylan Carmouche: 4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K

Carmouche threw the first half of eight no-hit innings, nearly leading a no-hit effort until a pair of 9th-inning hits ended the bid. Carmouche already has already had another no-hit appearance this season and was awarded the California Pitcher of the Week award once. He has a 2.12 ERA and is holding batters to a .158 average against.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • SS Cole Foster: 3-5, 3 RBI, 1 2B (6), 1 3B (1) – Foster is hitting .300 through 17 games, with six doubles, a triple, and a home run in 17 games.
  • DH Guillermo Williamson: 1-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 HR (2) – Williamson is just 8-for-44 (.182) through 13 games, but has a double and two home runs with them.
  • RP Junior Flores: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K – Flores’ three strikeouts were a big part of the no-hit bid. His ERA is now 3.38 , with 13 strikeouts to three walks.

  1. Lol I was wondering who gave up 6 in the 9th for the Rivercats. Why am I not surprised it’s Teng? I do not understand why he of all pitchers was brought up to the bigs earlier this season.
