Here’s what Aaron Boone said about Aaron Judge’s 2nd base interference

Should Judge have been ejected?

  1. No, he shouldn’t have been ejected. This is one of those things where *everyone in the league does it*, so the league needs to decide if this is something they want to crack down on.

Here’s Judge doing this on slides to 2nd is entire career: https://youtu.be/ANq55e6QGsg?feature=shared

Here’s Jomboy looking at how teams break up double plays across the league (15:50 mark): https://youtu.be/jDSLbdXWRhw?feature=shared

Hell, the Mets even tell their players *not to slide* and run through 2nd base standing up!!!

So the League needs to decide if they care. If they do, then double plays will likely be handled the way the Mets players do *when they do slide*: so early as to not impact the play at all, and basically to get out of the way of the throw.

Also, fielders are taught not to throw in the baseline so that they don’t hit runners with their thro as well. For a double play at 2nd in particular, the fielder covering 2nd will have their momentum carrying them *off the bag with a clear throwing lane outside the basepaths*.

So no, this is over-reaction by everyone.

  2. Feel like this is def a bit bush league but not illegal so there’s really nothing you can do
