  1. The decision here was probably between Miranda and Martin. I might’ve kept Martin up since he’s already slotted into the utility role but he has been slashing .226/.294/.371 and has been having a rougher time recently. Also the team could think that Castro can handle Martin’s outfield duties leaving Miranda as the primary 3B and Farmer as a PH/platoon mostly at 2B with Julien.

  2. Whoever was going to St. Paul wasn’t going to deserve it. His stats were pretty meh in the short sample, but I really liked how Martin balanced out the lineup with his skillset.

  3. Makes sense. Martin has been playable, but a .665 OPS won’t cut it. He’ll go back to St. Paul with a sense of what he needs to do to get back up.

  4. Someone should have dropped that summer sausage on Marot’s foot so they could IL him.

Martin has played well and also is a stolen base threat.

Margot will be gone when Royce Lewis is ready to come back.

  5. Could definitely see his potential, will definitely be better off getting that playing time in st paul while the roster gets healthier

  6. Given that Martin’s defense was rough, he wasn’t going to have a spot unless his bat stayed super hot, which it didn’t

  7. Man I’d almost send down one of our bullpen arms since our offense has been carrying this team.

  8. I understand the logic, but the obvious choice here should have been Margot. Margot is a marginal player who is a little above average hitting lefties. Martin can easily fill his role and I’d argue is already a better player anyway. Just DFA Margot and admit it wasn’t a great pickup to begin with.

I know it goes against the way the FO does things, but I don’t think we need to sacrifice our young bats in the short term to keep a player like Margot on the team all year.

  9. Why not Margot, Austin proved that he could play any position in the outfield. I liked his enthusiasm and tenacity. I am greatly disappointed in him being sent out. He has had several doubles in the short period of time that he was up here in the big show. He really hustled and made spectacular catches in the outfield. I consider him to be a great asset for the Minnesota Twins. You should not have given up on him so quickly.

  10. I like Martin more long term but I’m good with him playing everyday at AAA. He hasn’t spent that much time there, really. He’ll be back in the bigs this season.

  11. I think it was encouraging debut for Martin. He’ll have some things to work on in AAA, and we can be confident we have a serviceable bat to call up in the future

  12. I think the idea is that Martin will play everyday at AAA. They never really wanted to call him up this early anyway. He’s cooled a bit and Willi can play his positions with Correa back. It makes sense.

  13. I bet the coaches have a LOT of feedback for areas that Martin can work on back down in AAA, and he’ll be able to do so on a daily basis with lots of playtime.

I’ve enjoyed having him on the squad, but this next stint in the minors could possibly be a very strong developmental period for him.

  14. I think Gleeman and John’s point about Margot should have been considered but cutting a veteran like that wouldn’t send the signals to sign with the Twins in the future. This is probably the “right” decision but not the best one.
