  1. Because it’s the 11th overall pick, and you don’t take a TE 11th overall. No matter how dynamic the stans try to tell you he is

  2. Because as others stated, they needed an OL more. But to further break it down, as an uninformed independent football observer (LOL) who is biased towards the Jets:

At least one of the main OL they looked at were still available. If they were not, the Jets would have taken one of the top WRs, and if none of those were available, they would have taken Bowers. The team did not need a QB. When all the QBs were being drafted, that started to open things up for an OL or WR, thereby leaving Bowers out.

If the Giants picked Fashanu, the Jets would have selected WR Malik or Rome. If the key WRs and OL were taken, the Jets would have taken Bowers, but you had teams like Falcons picking Penix Jr. despite having Cousins, but I guess they want a QB to learn from a veteran like the Jets wanted to do with Rodgers. All the other teams who needed a QB actually picked a QB. Some thought the Pats would trade back and if they did, the other team may not have taken a QB opening up an OL and WR for us as the Gaints may have then went after JJ McCarthy to replace Daniel Jones leaving WR Rome or Malik, as well as Fashanu at which point we may have picked the WR to compliment Wilson, especially as we did well with OL via Free Agency. So the key to me was the Pats and Falcons.

  3. Conklin was #8 overall TE and a good blocker … young, good contract … need o line

  4. The Jets didn’t need a Tight End. They needed an offensive lineman.
